hayze07 Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 I am looking to do most of my fishing in the grande cache area this year and was wondering what would be the top 3 bull trout flies i should be swinging. I dont tie my own so recommendations that i can pick up at a fly shop would be great Quote
Guest 420FLYFISHIN Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 THE BIGGER THE FLY THE BIGGER THE BULL TROUT, i fish anything from 3 to 8 inches whites, black, red. I fint they like white with a bit of red a bit more then the flashy orange, yellow combos. I have seen people chuck salmon patters and they dont move with when a white wizerd comes allong they go nuts. Quote
Jayhad Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 I have had success with of course the white wizard... which you can't buy in stores. But the most sucessful store flies that I have used would be, Zonkers, big Bow River Buggers and bunny leaches. If you can get into wholesale sports they have prepackaged streamers 6 for like $11, so not really cheap but the packs I have seen have 4 very good bull trout flies. Quote
agbff Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Doesnt always have the be huge flies that will knock ya out on the way past. Smaller bull trout flies get huge cutties! You need a fly that has a lot of movement to get em. green red white or Tan white red is what i usually tie Quote
Guest 420FLYFISHIN Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 yah yah. greens work good too i forgot. Quote
ÜberFly Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 I was nailing some HUGE bullies last May on a beige sculpin pattern that I purchased at Russle's. P Quote
maxwell Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 some classics would eb double bunnies, clouser minnows, wooly buggers and bow river buggers in all color size 2 n 4 n ur laughin Quote
Guest 420FLYFISHIN Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 the atomic weasel is just a red and white clouser tied with maribou instead of buck tail or other materials but its no secret that a white wizard and jaba the butt are just half a bag of maribou tied to a hook Quote
bowbonehead Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Clousers,Zonkers,Deceivers - really anything bigger that will get down quick "Remember it's not always what you use but how you use it" Quote
bhurt Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 With the limited amount of Bull Trout fishing I have done I have always noticed the people tend to catch bull trout of "Bait" fish imitations. Quote
thefisherking Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 I picked up a few flies off of ebay in hopes of landing some bullies. The price is right and the flies look good. http://cgi.ebay.com/Red-White-Deceiver-Fly...id=p4634.c0.m14 http://cgi.ebay.com/Zonker-Natural-Gray-Pe...id=p4634.c0.m14 http://cgi.ebay.com/Lefty-Gray-White-Decei...id=p4634.c0.m14 http://stores.shop.ebay.com/Fishing-Tackle...634Q2ec0Q2em322 Quote
