Smitty Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 Good to see that the game of "blame the ref" is not solely monopolized by Hawgstoppah. After all, its more fun as a team sport. Hey, look for the silver lining, some lemonade if you will. If the Flames turn out to suck as bad as the Oilers last year (or even this year?? ), you might end up with a player of Taylor Hall's calibre. Just sayin', Smitty Quote
thedonald Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 Speaking of prospects, who do we have on the farm? Any headturners? Or is this another area of concern....lack of player developement in the system? Mind you the draft can be a casino of sorts, no guarentees there. Would have been nice to have some up and comers being tutored by Iginla and the boys. Quote
Hawgstoppah Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Don't blame the refs too much when the top line doesn't show up for the game for the Flames. I'd like to blame the refs for this one but dude ... SEVEN TO TWO!!!!!!! c'mon who are you kidding? I can see the refs screwing over a 3-2 loss for the flames they do it on a nightly basis... but not a 7-2 loss. This was a product of being outplayed and outclassed in every way. Iginla needs to freekin SHOW UP FOR A GAME!... when do they play next? Quote
TerryH Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 FEARLESS PREDICTION -- you heard it here first. This is Iginla's last year as a Flame. Quote
whataniceguy Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Reffing played a huge role in the outcome of that game. We went from 2-1 to 3-2 in a amatter of minuts because of refs making bad calls. You cant play two or even one man down in this league and expect to win, thats reffing all the way. In the NHL a bad call against can turn the momentum in a second. The refs took our momentum and gave it to the Caps, its amazing to me that people that watch hockey dont see how much refs impact the outcomes of hockey games these days. I think its 50-50, 50% playing and 50% refs making bad calls. All that said, the Flames did not have to pack it in after the adversity hit in the 2nd, they couldve hung in there and tried a little harder. When you are in full control of a game, then refs start making bad calls and you lose control due to bad calls its tough to come back from that. I agree that the Flames mailed in the last two periods but there are factors involved, its not that they just didnt show up, its frustrating at best. IMO penalties need to be reviewd and reversed at the moment of review, just like goals. There is to much on the line to have refs affecting outcomes and every bad call affects the outcome which is a bout 4 in 5 calls, brutal to say the least. Mind you I pay attention, I guess thats why it bugs me so much! Quote

He was agreat player and still may be, just not here. Its very clear when you see him play that he does not want to be here anymore. As sick as we are of hearing the same old crap after every game, Iggy is equally as sick of saying it. He wants out and I say we ablidge. Quote
bigalcal Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Iggy shouldn't be counted on to be the top guy on the Flames. Yzerman and Sakic had other players that took over the scoring responsibilities in their twilight....Iggy's got no one. Quote

Mind you I pay attention, I guess thats why it bugs me so much! I can certainly see this side of the fence as well. I realize that we were up 2-1 but honestly... I don't think we deserved a 2-1 lead at that point either. The first goal was a fluke bouncer of three things including Jokinen's leg, and the second goal deflected off a stick on a play were glenchross should have passed the damn puck and that shot (if not deflected) would have been the average save made in every game. Face it, the flames were badly outplayed, outclassed, and outworked. Even before that 5 on 3. But that's just the way I saw it... and everyone's going to see the same thing from their point of view. Trust me becuase I often come out of watching a game absolutely heated at the reffing... but this one I just didn't see it. The flames had more PP chances than the caps did but what did we do with them? There was only ONE bad, bad call in this game and that was Iggy's interference call... which was complete BS What Iggy needs is some talented linemates who can get him the puck more often in a scoring position. It's not a fluke that he did very well in the Olympics. He DOES need to put more effort into the game though, he look half asleep lately. Someone fight him! Quote
whataniceguy Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 lol, its funny for the last 4 years Ive said Im not going to get uptight and here I am again UPTIGHT lol. Quote
Hawgstoppah Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 It's called being a compassionate hockey fan. I wish the guys on the ice cared as much as some of us die hard flamers do. :$*%&: Quote

whataniceguy Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 heh heh.. you just called yourself a Flamer.. What happened to the youngsters last night, not one point between them! Another close but no cigar one for the Oilers eh! Quote
whataniceguy Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 What happened to the youngsters last night, not one point between them! Another close but no cigar one for the Oilers eh! I retract that statement, as a Flames fan I shouldnt be poking fun at anyone Quote
Hawgstoppah Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Do they ever look bad tonight. Hard to watch this. Detroit is out hustling them... that's all this is. It's an effort level thing... that and the fact that Calgary looks like a pee wee team passing practice. Coaching. Period. Fire Sutter. Period. Get someone in here that can get these guys to put 110% into the game every night and they will be fine. I'll be shocked if they actually come out in the 3rd and win this. I'll call it now. 4-1 wings. Quote
whataniceguy Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 The Pee Wee refrence is great, thasts exactly what it looked like. That game was pure ugly, if were not for Kipper that game wouldve been 5/6/7 to 1. I will be in the Brown paper bag section from here on out There is nothing left to say Quote
whataniceguy Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 PS: Crosby's fight was cool, looked like he got rocked with the first punch or two but came back and just man handled the guy lol! Quote
Guest Sundancefisher Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 I had the unfortunate pleasure of going to the Flame/Red Wings game last night. I can never pay for another game after that travesty. They skated like their blades were dull and skates were loose. There sticks were 2 feet too short and they all had beer goggles on. Gezz Flames...ain't it obvious the problem? Sutter's dump and chase game just does not work for this squad. Especially when the average Flame is slower than average NHL player and if you get lucky and get a stick on the puck...you are incapable of passing with more than a 5% chance of getting the pass to the next guy. Try counting consecutive passes between Flames in a game. Rarely do they get more than 2...almost never 4. Detroit...6, 9, 10, 12...over and over again. IMHO...our losing is not because of age...but just hiring guys with poor fundamentals. Even Iggy can barely seem to pass well these days. Hagman...gezz...horrible last night. Not a single player stood out except Kipper and Gio. Hockey players are paid millions...yet we can rarely pass tape to tape. I would say stop working the Flames to death at practices if and only IF they can learn to pass. Then they can control the puck...and significantly increase their chances to score and not be so freaking tired during the games. Otherwise...the Flames just keep getting worse as the rest of league this season gets better. Quote
whataniceguy Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 Tonight is an absolute mystery, whos going to show up? how bad will the D look? will Iggy get a point? Oh well Black Ops came out last night at midnight so maybe just play vids instead lol! Quote

Hawgstoppah Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 I was impressed by the hustle and effort of Hagman tonight in basically creating the tying and game winning goals through hard work. I thought he was the best player on the ice by far. Quote
TerryH Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Good news Flames fans, there's an Oilers game you can watch tonight instead. TerryOoops, cancel that. Terry Quote
whataniceguy Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Only saw the 3rd period, Hagman always tries so hard. I still think he was the best player in the Dion trade. Calgary needs to play from behind, they got down early and won. Seems like whenever they jump out to a lead they blow it. Anyways good job that was a must win!! Quote
