Chunky Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 This might be a dumb question, but I'd like confirmation as I'm still quite new to this. I crossed the side channel at Bankside to get onto Poplar Island and then noticed a City of Calgary sign in the bushy area away from the water. I should have taken a pic of it so I could post it, but in a nutshell, the sign says the area is off limits and you could be fined $172. My question is: Does that only apply to those bushy areas or is it for the entire island? I asked an experienced angler and he didn't realize you could get fined there. I've also seen drift boaters land on the island and fish from there while I was on the other side of the river. I tried Googling it but couldn't find anything. Does anyone know for certain that you can or cannot fish from Poplar Island? Thanks. Quote
ÜberFly Posted September 19, 2020 Posted September 19, 2020 Yes the entire island is off limits, but you can access the water via the shore (not the bank), just can't step on the land. Though there are better stretches of water to fish!! Quote
SilverDoctor Posted September 19, 2020 Posted September 19, 2020 Mallard Point, Fish Creek Park. The reason is there is a Bird Sanctuary there. 1 Quote
bowbonehead Posted September 19, 2020 Posted September 19, 2020 I think the bigger issue was peoples dogs running off leash in the area ..... there is a ton off deer on the island and it was becoming a problem with dogs chasing them so making it off limits was an easier solution for the city Quote
