larger hackle in both the abdomen and the thorax area (the hackle should equal the distance between the hook shank and point)...that's about all i have for ya...and if you like flashy flies, try tying some with ice dub...good tie bud...

looks fine...couple of thoughts:

1. move the tail further back...it usually starts right above the barb.

2. The brown hackle is usually undersized, which is what you have here (regular size goes a little bit longer to reach the point).

3. For the grizzly hackle, go over-sized. It's much too small here...over-sized will help the big fly float better in the rough water.

Jim Slattery originated the fly (not kaufman). At least according to him. This is his tie. He said its supposed to imitate a fluttering stonefly. He makes specific notice of the bald head (no hackle)

thanks for all the responses everyone. I find it hard to look at a pic and try to replicate flies, but rather have the fly and look at it. so I took one that I had and tried to copy it. I think I'm using the wrong type of hook but not too sure if it matters. Will still use everyones advice. so thanks, appreciate them all.
