razz Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Just curious if anyone knows where one could find the magnets used for the typical net releasers? Not looking for a net releaser itself, just the magnet so I could possibly make my own. Google let me down on this one so I'm reaching out to the pros here. Thanks in advance. Quote
FishFury Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Leevalley has a good selection of quality magnets. Could take a look there?? 1 Quote
BurningChrome Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 I think these would probably be what you're looking for: http://www.leevalley.com/en/Hardware/page.aspx?p=32065&cat=3,42363,42348&ap=1 Quote
Flyfisher Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 I use a small carabiner. It's attached to the end of my net handle and hooks onto a ring just below the collar on the back of my vest. Easy to reach, quick to release. A far better system than magnetic ones. No chance of the net being pulled off a magnet. Quote
darrinhurst Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 I use the Springbrook Mag Net Release. It has a small bungy cord that prevents me from losing my net, both sagging on a tree, or by floating away. $40 and well worth the price. http://templeforkoutfitters.ca/deluxe-mag-net-release.html Quote
Sage Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Also a fan of the magnetic net release with the bungy cord. I got excited landing a nice size fish this year and ended up hot footing it downstream to retrieve my net. Been on the magnet/ bungy cord system since. I grabbed a bit longer shock cording at MEC and it idiot proofed it for me. Quote
mdfcontracting Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Fishtales has these for 22 bucks. For that price why bother making one. Quote
BurningChrome Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Fishtales has these for 22 bucks. For that price why bother making one. Because you can. Sense of accomplishment. Pride in craftsmanship. Just for the experience of it. To make it the way you want. The list goes on. It's no different than tying your own flies when you can get them for pretty cheap online. 1 Quote

Mukluk Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 The TFO distributor up behind Blackfoot Casino has an awesome little magnet with the rip cord for $10.00. I bought one yesterday. Cheaper than most I've seen and seems to have a bit more of a stronger magnet than most. Quote
bigalcal Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 So now we want to see the finished product!!!! Quote
