discodewey Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 A buddy and I are looking to take up the sport. I've got most of my gear from years ago but he needs everything. Aside from gear it would be nice to get some advice - be it regarding local waters, patterns, or anything. I see there are a few shops off Macleod in the South end near Anderson. Any one or two that people recommend for a couple of newbies? Thanks! Quote
Snouthunter Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Anybody over at fish tales are very helpful, also Steve or josh are very helpful as well and they recently took over west winds fly shop just off southland Dr in the se. Quote
ÜberFly Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Bow River Troutfitters downtown and Fishtales are both top notch! Quote
Scottmisfits Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 I have been into Fishtales a handful of times. Lately it's always with my son. They are very friendly, will answer my questions and chat with me. They will answer the questions of my 9 year old son who is learning. I haven't been to the others. Quote
sleeper Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Fishtails, always helpful. If you are in the south IronBow, for those from the north Both great shops. Quote
discodewey Posted July 1, 2015 Author Posted July 1, 2015 Awesome. Thanks for the info, everyone. Quote
Muffin Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 A bit late but I too would say Fishtales, it is where I buy all my gear. I know that when I took my dad in to get a full setup, rod, reel, waders etc that Wendy(I believe) spent an hour or so helping him out and was spot on with all her recommendations. He loves the gear and has definitely been getting out a pile. Quote

Seriously, some good advice can be found from the members of this forum I'll definitely be asking for advice and suggestions here. Once we have some options for my buddy I'll probably fire off some questions. That said, he's more of a "who cares what it costs" guy and will likely just pull the trigger on whatever they recommend at the shop Quote
