  1. As much as I am not wild on the box stores, Cabelas has a black folding flybox with a middle insert that gives a total of 4 panels. The large holds 900 flies. It's the "SwingLeaf" fly box that I'm talking about. I have a couple of them and I like them for chrono flies but I'm finding that they aren't quite deep enough for dry flies on both sides, it pushes down the tops of the flies and kind of flattens them out. Get the flies wet and they do come back up but I will be using my old fly boxes for the dry flies.
  2. Thanks Taco. I will check that out. I do enjoy using it, it just carries a nostalgic value to me so I don't use it that much. I have a 6w floating and a sinking for it and it seems to cast the sinking line just a bit better. I like travelling with it as well being that it's a 5 piece, not the standard of the time of a 2 piece.
  3. I have a rod, built by my Dad, late 70’s or early 80’s. But not a lot of information past that. Fenwick Woodstream 102-6-5 are the markings. From what I can gather, the FL designation was the blank, FF was used in factory built rods. 102 is 8’6”, 6 is 6w, and the 5 is the pieces, similar to what system is still being used today to identify. I have searched around and there doesn’t seem to be a lot of info on the FL designation, only guesses that the FL designated a blank. There is nothing special about the ferrules on it, but Dad did wrap them and coat them, I believe with varnish, not epoxy. There is no ”bubble” around any of the thread.
  4. There is supposed to be another one out by Jumping Pound, just west of Cochrane. I can't remember the name of it but I have heard stories of some of the encounters.
  5. That would be interesting to try. Maybe the channels of the Bow between Glenmore and Heritage, with maybe a 7 or 8w line since the guy said a 6w was a little light.
  6. Yeah, I saw that and replied as well. Thank you
  7. I went to one Micheals and they had no macrame yarn. Sold out. I did pick up some regular yarn, a 50/50 acrylic wool blend. It doesn't float by itself, but with some floatant it seems to be working, at least in a glass on my counter. That may change in moving water, I'm sure. I'll still be looking for the macrame yarn when I head out though. Has anyone tried to dye the macrame? I'm not so sure that off white will be high vis in all situations, but I do think I would still prefer it.
  8. I see some people use glow yarn for making the o-ring style indicators, but none of the shops locally at least, are showing it on-line. Is there anything from a craft store that may be cheaper, have a wider color selection, etc?
  9. I have the Cabela’s ones. They are my first pair and I have nothing to compare them to, other than what I see. 16 days on the water this year, close to 30 last year, no signs of anything. I like that they have grip on the bottom of the socks. My feed tend not to move in the boot. It is the right size boot, but it reduces any movement that I can feel, even with flippers on a belly boat. I find them comfortable, maybe a little heavy for weather like it has been, but I don’t notice it when I get in the water anyway. Three things I don’t like. One, the pouch is very small, on the inside, and just felt. I’d rather it be bigger and easier access. Two, the shoulder straps are stretchy. Everything about them it stretchy, there is no solid strapping anywhere. I get and appreciate elastic, but I think there is just to much of it. Three, no belt loops for the wading belt.
  10. Does anyone else get forwarded to an online casino when they click on the pattern database above? Thought it would be cool to check out some.different patterns and get inspired.
  11. Pretty subtle compared to what you guys are showing But I made up half a dozen in this Chartreuse, and a half dozen in red. I haven't been tying for all that long and always getting better and trying new things. The thread I used was what I could get at the time but it was way to big. 270 and 400 denier I think it said. I was trying to "cheat" a bit and use some bigger thread to build the body quicker, but it built to fast. I will get some 6/0 or 3/0 and try again in a while.
  12. Thanks for sharing these pictures. Hopefull I can get my son even more excited to go out. One more week of soccer and then there is a lot more time for me to get him out.
