Vet Recommendations South Calgary

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I live in South Calgary and I have a couple of dogs.. I'm looking to change vets because our current vet seems to over charge for a lot of services..

Any recommendations for a Vet in South Calgary?

Steve

Out of curiousity, what do you feel 'a lot' is?

Landing Animal Clinic in Glenmore Landing is my recommendation. Any of the vets are fine. They have 3 main vets. 2 of the 3 vets also work as specialists at the CARE Animal Hospital.

Geez, I'll scour through my vet bills and try to send you a message. There have been 2 occasions that we've taken our dogs in and they urgently recommended a treatment before test results were in and the test results came back negative. So we paid for the treatment/surgery on misdiagnosed issues (because they were deemed urgent). Also, our last visit our dog came back to us with pretty bad bruising on an separate area that wasn't treated. Needless to say we didn't pay for that bill and won't be going back.

It sounds like you are justified.

Vets are inherently expensive. My cat has a bad goopy eye. Today cost me $155 for the assessment and medicine. $150-$200 for a single problem seems to be average.

While vets (and human doctors, for that matter) are all very smart and all meet minimum standards, 50% are necessarily below average. It is hard to find a good one.

For normal vet visits and concerns I take my dogs to Acadia vet clinic. I have dealt with Laurie Weber for many years and she is great, her associates are good as well. They are all honest and although the prices are the same as most they havent ever tried to bs me into something that isn't right.

During cat season my bluetick got a pretty good gash along her ribs it was right to the bone and about 2 inchs long, ended up taking her to the fish creek 24 hr pet hospital the next morning and they did a great job. Cost me $380 to get her knocked out and fixed up. Thought that was very reasonable for a Sunday morning.

Quoted almost $700 to have our dog neutered and micro chipped here in Mc. Towne. Nanton quoted us $250 and talked us out of a micro chip (who has a chip reader anyways) and suggested a tattoo instead (anyone can read a tattoo). We were quite shocked at the difference in price, Nanton will get all our animal related business.

Dewinton animal hospital. Have taken my dog to a few different vets and been screwed around. Too him here and I go in with a problem he comes out with proper meds and I don't have to go back for the same issue.

We have 2 dogs (large & small) + 1 cat, and wouldn't take our animals to anyone to Stephanie Ball at Southtrail Vet Clinic on 130th (beside the Keg). You can tell she actually cares about her work, and is straight up and honest about what your dog needs, unlike other vets that seem more like an assembly-line. The prices are reasonable and we wouldn't trust anyone else with our dogs.
