LynnF Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 If you're ever offering guided trips for said rockfish, count me in. It's on my list of things to do before I die Quote
Taco Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 I went snipe hunting once in Texas. Stood around for hours with my paper sack, but none of those suckers showed up. I thought I heard some, but didn't catch any. Couldn't find my friends afterwards either. Don't know what happened to them. There's your problem Hoss, shoulda used burlap instead of paper.... makes a big Big difference. Quote
Pipes Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Sorry Glen, my buddy still holds the Alberta record. Note: this is not the proper holding technique. One should always support the rockfish from the underside as Glenbow shows. Quote
brewingup Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Looks to me like he just retreived a half eaten hot dog he dropped in the water, especially by that smile on his face ;0) Quote
Glenbow Posted October 18, 2007 Author Posted October 18, 2007 Pipes, that is clearly a northen freshwater snapping clam, evidently snagged whilst TROLLING a cheap Williams Wobbler immitation. I stalked my rock fish as I know their migration patterns, and caught it on a fly. My chronie is less than 1/2 the size of 1 barb on that treble hook. And best of all, I don't look like that guy. Nice try! Quote
OneMoreLastCast Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 ....And best of all, I don't look like that guy. Nice try! Ummm....I hate to break this to you Glen, but you kind of do. Quote

We don't take well to pictures showing snapping freshwater clams being butchered by what looks like a BARBED treble hook. He probably killed and ate the clam. I hope he chokes on that hotdog! All that said, anyone know where I can get a shirt like that? Quote

And I am pretty sure the regs say you don't have to de-barb if it is a treble I will agree that this guy is pretty shady though. PS. All hooks were de-barbed, we took a quick picture and released the clam to live another day. Quote

Glenbow Posted October 18, 2007 Author Posted October 18, 2007 Oh who am I kidding, that guy is like Charles Bronson & I'm like Bronson Pinchot by comparison. So much for the anonymity of this site, MTB (aka Gilbert Gottfreid). Quote
LynnF Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 wow.....I thought this would have gone offtrack about 4 posts ago. I'm proud of you guys - way to practice your maturity. Quote
Glenbow Posted October 18, 2007 Author Posted October 18, 2007 Lynn, We are a mature lot of ultra-sophisticated, genteel fly fishers. I am dismayed at your appraisal of us and hereby notify you that I shall NOT request your accompanyment at the annual secret fly-fisherman's ball. But thanks for the compliment. And if we ever do actually have a ball, you can of course come. I'm such a wuss. Quote

ladystrange Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 I wonder how those taste? Looks like they are all meat. Chicken what else would it taste like.. DUH Quote
reevesr1 Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Glen, I thought MTB completed me! Just curious, ever thought your post on pulling up a rock would make 3 pages? Man, are we sad or what? Quote
Glenbow Posted October 18, 2007 Author Posted October 18, 2007 Rickr, no kidding - I was just thinking that same thing myself! I never would'a believed it could happen (it is a rock after all) and it's not even February yet. Quote
reevesr1 Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Always kinda funny how these things take off. My biggest hit was when I congratulated myself for being a daily post whore winner. Went on for days, in lots of directions and was very funny. Quote
flyangler Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Very very nice rocks, guys. Once you get those photos framed, where are you going to hang them? Quote
ladystrange Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 you should have kept it and had it mounted. i know a great taxidermist. does wonderful fihs - his paint is excellent. he might have even been able to make it look like a fish Quote
Glenbow Posted October 19, 2007 Author Posted October 19, 2007 "Very very nice rocks, guys. Once you get those photos framed, where are you going to hang them?" Why, over my 'rock'ing chair, of course! Quote
Hawgstoppah Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Why, over my 'rock'ing chair, of course! LOL.... I also have tangled with this elusive creature. I landed mine on a #8 sjw from the Bow River. The species I got was the "rockacovadd ingooickius" Once cleaned up, it stayed in my bag for good luck. Unlike you guys, I bonked my catch..... (seriously, I kept it for like 6 years as a good luck stone) Quote
