Other then personal preference what would be "some" technical differences between an 8'6" and a 9' rod of the same weight, brand, model, etc?! *EDIT* and other then the obvious 6" difference in length!! Tungsten Posted March 30, 2012 Share Posted March 30, 2012 My guess is the butt section can be a little less on 8'6 rods so this would give you more flex,feel in the mid and lower sections. i have a 4wt 8'6 rod love the feel,very accurate and it does some single hand spay casts also.
