Pfd Recommendation

Was hoping someone could recommended one for general FF needs. I had a bit of a close call recently and am looking to invest in an angling specific, i.e., low profile, neutral color PFD.

This is the one I invested in (Mustang). I primarily wear it in the winter when fishing off of ice shelves or during the summer fishing from a pontoon...

 

Not necessarily "angling specific" but low profile ( I can wear it under a vest - when I wore a vest).

 

It's expensive, but worth it in my opinion (I mean, how much is your life worth?!)...

P.S. Another benefit with this design is that you can get them in a variety of colors (including some neutral ones - mine is the black/grey. When inflated, however they are all bright yellow = highly visible).

 

Also, be careful not to buy used or "on sale" (Craigslist, Kijiji, etc.) I noticed when I was 1st researching them, someone had a bunch of discontinued models for sale and when I googled that specific model, they had been recalled!!

I also use the same one. Mine is navy blue on the outside but they all have a bright yellow bladder when inflated. I generally use mine when I float down the river but useing it while wading is a good idea.

I picked up a Nautilus brand from Canadian Tire. I got the manual inflating, but if I did it again I'd get the Automatic.

Wife has Nautilus & I've got Mustang.

 

Now for the good part.

 

Both are built in Canada.

Both are available in CDN stores

Both are DOT approved.

 

The SOS suspenders and things that Cabellas sells are not DOT approved and cannot be used legally in Canada.

 

And now for the Best part. DOT Approval trumps the US Coast Guard Approval. We can wear Mustang and Nautilus in the US but they can't use their stuff here.
