Mudflap
Hello; I am shopping for a new vest. My last was a higher end fishpond pack style that lasted about 5 years. Zippers blew and I no longer like all the tag ends were line always catches on. I am leaning towards a Simms G3 any opinions? Maybe other models? Thanks in advance
jdangler
Simms is the one!
cheeler
I have the Simms G3 - it almost has too much room because it can really get weighed down if you're a bit overzealous with the packing.
darrinhurst
I'm kind of impartial to the William Joseph stuff myself. Had and Equinox chest pack that I loved, and now I have upgraded to the Exodus. You can separate the vest from the back pack when you don't need it, and the back back has PLENTY of room in it for a jacket, lunch, gloves, spare fly boxes, water bladder, etc. http://www.williamjoseph.net/products/product_8.aspx
SilverDoctor
I have a few vests that I really like including on old Orvis and a two year old Gillie and a few others, although I usually carry a Hardy bag. But won't suggest on to you. What you should do is take your fly boxes to a local fly shop shop, try on a couple of vests loaded with your stuff and make your decision based on that. Flyfishen
Why doesn't William Joseph show any dealers in Canada? Do they not deal here in Canada? Although I wouldn't mind fishing in Montana, its quite the drive just to pick up a vest. I'm kind of impartial to the William Joseph stuff myself. bigbowtrout
I've gone from vests to packs and I can't see myself going back. I have two Orvis packs and love em. Lots of room for lunch, extra layers and water etc.
Harps
You can get the WJ stuff at wholesale, and cheap too (relative to bass pro and online). I think Westwinds has it too? I lik ethe simms backpack and the WJ mag line chest packs.
reevesr1
I have a WJ wading jacket. Got it for xmas last year. I really like it andI don't think it cost all that much. Nice pockets, fit, and it keeps me dry. Just putting that out there to give positive feedback on WJ quality vs. cost.
flyfishfairwx
A good wading Jacket and Waders - I use Redington, CPX zipper front Waders and they have great pockets, and the Redington Redstorm Jacket is great!!!! Then all the rest goes into a Back pack, and that includes http://flyfishcalgary.com/flyfisher_survival_kit.php

You can also get their stuff at Wholesale (buddy got his there) and The Fishin Hole.
birchy
I'm thinking of trying the Fishpond backpack/vest combo next time around. I think I was looking at the Shooting Star.. but I just checked the website and now they have the "Tundra" and "Piney Creek" for 2011.
