redline Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 One big jack... not on a fly rod but friggin huge none the less... i will try and just get the pics Turtle Lake is 12 km.east of us at Brightsand Lake !!! For those of you who don't know where Turtle Lake is, it's in Northern Saskatchewan..... probably the biggest nearby centre would be North Battleford , it's a beautiful resort and lake. You will never, ever - see me swim in Turtle Lake again! WOW!! This is NOT a fish story ! This is a new record Northern Pike in Canada .. He caught it on Turtle Lake . Check this thing out.. The man (in the photos below), was fishing and caught a 36" Pike. As he was reeling it in, a 56" - 55 lb Pike tried to eat it !!!!! He landed them both in the same net. The last picture is unreal..... Quote
canadensis Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Here is the lure they use in Turtle lake; Quote
Taco Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 those pictures been floating around the net for 10 yrs or more, first saw the pic on the left on Jensen's old FFC board, the fish on the right was caught in Europe Quote
reevesr1 Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Norway or Finland if memory serves. Not Sask. Sorry. Quote
Avalanche Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 It looks like a huge bridge in the background in that 2nd picture. Ain't no bridge like that on Turtle Lake. Some nice fish there though...or at least there was 35 years ago when I went ice fishing there. Quote

Taco Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 That pike was caught in Holland. Thought it might be a Dutch fish... big mouth, prone to ambush attacks........ Quote
Pipestoneflyguy Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Turtle Lake - Also notorious for sasquatch, ogo-pogo, loch ness, giant albino moose, and Elvis Presely sightings.... Quote
beedhead Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 I have had several emails over the years, with those two pics attached, And they all had a different story... Big pike non the less.. Quote

jksnijders Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Ijmuiden is a nice place. Never got a chance to fish for pike much when I was there, but did get out on the Ijssel River for an afternoon near Kampen, guy I went with has sent me pics of the pike and walleye (snoekbaars) that they get, walleye considerably larger than the average we see. Lots of slow moving productive water and forage fish, no wonder they get so big. Definitely want to get back there with a flyrod.. Quote
jksnijders Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Thought it might be a Dutch fish... big mouth, prone to ambush attacks........ Hehe... The snoekbaars ('eyes) are impressive too Family friend sent me pics of several up around 20 lbs or larger.... Never got that lucky. Roebuck didn't pan out very well either. Quote
seby Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 The snoekbaars ('eyes) are impressive too I beleve they are called Zander. About the pike pic, its quite old and definetly not from Canada, prob holland the name on the jacket says orgski bojorgski, so who ever speaks that can correct me. I dont think the two pictures are even realated, the fish dont look the same. But anyway cool catch none the less. Quote
Taco Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Yeah zander is the proper name, snoekbaar is the regional or colloquial name Quote
