canadensis Posted December 13, 2009 Posted December 13, 2009 I was at my local Safeway yesterday and I noticed "vegetarian chicken wings" . There was also hot dogs, meat balls, chicken strips, and sausages, all meatless. They were in a cooler in the Fruit and Vegetable area BTW.. Why is packaged vegetarian cuisine made to look, smell and taste like meat? Makes about as much sense to me as hot dogs in shapes as carrots and celery. Seems even the vegetarians need a meat fix. 126barnes Posted December 13, 2009 Posted December 13, 2009 I'm wondering why I drove 6300km to Calgary instead of flying so I could have a car to get me to the river. Quote
dube Posted December 13, 2009 Posted December 13, 2009 Niiiiiiice cast. Even the most realistic soy dog won't fool the strictest veggies though, good thing they feed more regularly so you got a good chance of hooking up. Quote
SilverDoctor Posted December 13, 2009 Posted December 13, 2009 Why do they sell you a product and then do the plastic packaging around it so that you have to work to get at what you just bought. Quote

firefrog Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 'Why is packaged vegetarian cuisine made to look, smell and taste like meat?' Point. And in doing so they process the livin' bejesus out of it. Maybe they figure if it's going to be not-so-healthy after all, might as well make it look like something they hate. Double guilt theory - makes it OK somehow. I wonder if vegans have these types of running jokes about carnis and omnis. Eat! Quote
