  1. Saw something similar on the Deneki Outdoors blog a while back and thought it would be interesting. So what's the most unusual item you carry in your boat bag, backpack, or fly vest? I always carry a couple of balls because I fish with my dog a lot and we stop to take fetch breaks.

  3. Aren't those the lines they usually sell at Canadian Tire and Wal-Mart? Hope you didn't pay more than $30 for it...
  4. Chumming for grass carp!!!
  5. Some of my friends already think my fly fishing and tying obsession is a little strange. Can't imagine what they'd think if they walked into my place and saw pink condoms scattered around my tying area. I think I'll pass on tying any of these...
  6. Actually, it happens to me way more often with single hand lines than spey lines thanks to the Airflo kits at Fish Tales. I've lost track of how many single-handed lines I've bought and sold after only one or two days.
  7. I read they also eat berries that fall into the water so a globug might work or just tie some green craft fur to a hook. If your hook gets some weeds or grass caught in it would that be considered using bait?
  8. So what's the alternative? We used to have more cell companies but they were failing and got acquired. I have a feeling the same will happen to the new providers.
  9. Are you sure it was photocopies and not because of a Telus data stick? Sorry, couldn't resist...
  10. When the iPhone was launched in Canada a couple years ago I admit to standing in line to get one on the first day. By the time I got mine, the Rogers computer systems were barely working from being overloaded. As a result it didn't get recorded in the system that I opted for the 6GB a month data plan at $30. A couple of weeks later I get a call from Rogers customer service to warn me that my data usage was around $200 so far for the month. I explained that I had asked for the data plan, she said she understood that the systems had problems that day so she added the plan to my bill and corrected the charges. Never even had the error show up on my bill. Anyhow, the point is that when someone's bill starts racking up to a certain point or shows abnormal usage there should be a system in place that alerts the customer somehow like Rogers did for me. Not saying that there aren't other problems with Rogers, but in this case their customer service was obviously much better than what Pipestone is experiencing with Telus.
  11. Agree 100%. These companies should be legislated into warning you when your bill hits a certain dollar value no matter what. It's incredibly easy to program something like that into the billing software. If you keep fighting I bet they'll relent because they know they'll take a PR hit if you go to the media. A lot of times just the threat of going to the media is enough to get them to cave.
  12. This guy probably wouldn't show up...
  13. Just enough drag to keep from backspooling for me as well. I frequently just use my finger to press the fly line against the cork instead of palming, though not advisable if a fish is running fast.
  14. Yeah, I'm pretty sure Rick will be there since it's at his house and all...
  15. Yeah, I've been using those ones as well and I don't think they're that much more expensive than the regular ones. I have them in red, yellow, and green. Not sure if there are more colours than those.
  16. I could do Saturday, but not Sunday.
  17. Glue them down to a toothpick or something similar using some white glue. It'll be strong enough to hold them on while you paint but not so much that you can't pop them off when you're done.
  18. Yes. That's why I use a fast and easy tie like the chenille stone for my anchor fly.
  19. Are you talking about actual Czech nymph patterns or flies to use with Czech nymphing techniques? Most of my Czech nymphs are evil weevils without the tail and legs and flat lead wrapped underneath to give them weight. You want them heavy and with little drag so they get deep fast. I've used a chenille stonefly nymph with lots of flat lead underneath and a big tungsten bead with lots of success as well while Czech nymphing. Talk to John Bransfield, he's the local Czech nymphing expert.
  20. Nice flies Mitch. Something about that second one I really like. I've been tying a lot of big bright streamers for 'nooks lately including string leeches. Decided to try making a MOAL/string leech for trout...
  21. The Bow can be a tough river to fish. Reading the water on the Bow can be difficult, especially if you're used to smaller rivers. I'd suggest hiring a guide to show you some spots or post in the get togethers section next time you're here to see if someone will head out with you. Those two options will help lower the learning curve.
  22. Just pop over to the other thread and you can see which is which. Pretty easy since there are only 3. http://flyfishcalgary.com/board/index.php?showtopic=10941
  23. Not an astounding picture, but my favourite. When my dog was younger I tried taking him fishing, but he kept wandering off so I had to leave him at home. Last spring he turned 4, so I decided to give it another try. This was the first fish he ever saw and he's been out with me almost every time since. It's gotten to the point where if I even touch any of my gear he runs to the front door.
  24. Shoulda used the pokey one...
