I don't know how much you paid, but you can pick up a 1/2 hackle of qood quality for ~$50. Add the cost of hooks ($7 for 2doz), thread, dudding. Another $10? Tie up 25 flies and your hackle is paid for. Tie up another 25 to pay off a bit of the vise. Eventually, you will be on the plus side. The problem comes when you start tying all types of one off flies calling for different materials. But you are one of those that uses 6 different flies for all your fishing, you will save a ton of money.

That would be those Liberal types. Its a political strategy. Then you have those Quebecers who define themselves as "not Canadian". Also a political strategy. Politicians and their minions.

LS, if you have 500 flies (including the ones you lost/gave away) at $2 each, that $1000. It only takes a couple of years of tying before you end up on the plus side, me thinks. This only works for those who stick with it and fish a lot. Dablers won't realize these returns.

I love cams and highly recommend them but the cam handle on those are *huge*. Wouldn't that get in the way?

ggp, that is one really well tied fly (nice head). You have my vote so far.

Good looking flies. The two things beginners always have a problem with is proportion and crowding the eye. Your proportion is good (except for the tails, as already pointed out) and beadhead save you from the eye crowding problem. Now, try tying some dries......

Max, if you pick a couple from the list provided, I'll scan in the picture and pattern for you. Or, if you give me an idea what your interested in (dry, nymph, stream), I can show a couple that haven't been picked yet. ps. The Green Drake Special is coming along. Not as nice as the picture, but very buggy looking.

Don is right. For the smaller extended flies, I just tie in the moose tails and palmer a lightly dubbed thread up and back to form the extended body. Still, if this was your attempted at following a pattern you wanted to copy, you copied it great.

Flytier, I just had an idea. If there's enough space on the display table, why not put a display together of *original* flies tied by members of this site (and Flyangler?). I have the Bow Juan Worm, Brent has his bug. I'm sure others have theirs. It would give this site some exposure. Just a thought.

I was flipping through the book yesterday looking for a challenging fly (or two). I have to say, the tying instructions leave a lot to be desired. Anyway, sign me up for the Green Drake Special. It looks like a real tough tie but I'll try a few, send you the best, and fish the rest.

Hi Brent. I just wanted to let you know that I just finished tying up about 2 dozen of those. I used black ice dub instead but other then that, they are the same. On the last few, I made a slight modification. It was one of those "why didn't I (or anyone else) think of this before" mods. I want to test it this spring before revealing what that mod was.

The tightest I've seen. I wasn't going to vote cause I couldn't make up my mind but even if people went "eeny meeny miney moe", it'd be better then nothing.
