  1. Beaver mines lake is a nice place. Campground, beach by the boat launch and hiking as well as the obvious fishing opportunities
  2. The guy in the red roofed house may not be sympathetic to your plight, he's had more than a few negative experiences with river users over the years. I've met him through work and he can be a bit of a gruff individual. Having said that, I've inquired about accessing the river from the north bank on his property. A resounding no to a crane, but he might maybe consider another option. Sorry that I can't be more help
  3. You could also drop down a tippet size, go from 4x to 5x for example. It's a trick that's worked for me in the past in similar situations.
  4. I'm not sure what your handles are on here, but a big thanks to a fellow from Airdrie, as well as a fellow from Kaslo. Thank you for your generous gifts of flies and boxes, they are greatly appreciated. I've kept your return addresses, and will send you guys some of my favorite ties sometime before the end of the summer. Thanks again for your generosity
  5. It's a really disheartening feeling to discover that someone has ripped off your equipment. I've had snowborad gear stolen before, but not fly fishing equipment. 4 boxes gone, pretty much all my chronies, streamers and dries, as well as 2/3 of my nymphs. I guess its a good thing I bought a couple of boxes at the end of the season last year, I still have some nymphs and tiny dries. And to think I gave Pipestone a hard time for having multiple boxes. Silver Doc, I can't imagine the feeling you had when you realized your pontoon was no longer yours. On the bright side, I still have my rods and reels.

    Those are some nice fish.
  7. I passed the tests in mid may, haven't heard anything about the supervised outing yet. I know that Pipestone is in the same boat, in waiting mode for some supervision.
  8. That's pretty funny, too bad it's true. At least you don't live in BC, you'd have to include the HST as well. Thanks for the laughs
  9. Google earth, it's like a treasure hunt.
  10. I've decided all fishing is unethical. You should all quit and give me your stuff. You've said it. Can we make a deal on some of the extra stuff you get doubles of? It's got more to do with how you long you play them out and how strong they need to be to break free of the kungfu revival grip.
  11. You could try Grizzly lake for brookies down by Pincher Creek. The access is by Beaver mines lake and the southcastle valley, I don't remember how far. I hiked it last year and ran into some people from the crowsnest trail riders assoc.( I think) that were doing some trail clearing with the SRD. The trail was pretty good in september except for a couple tighter aspen sections. There's a pvc pipe container with a journal in it that goes back a few years at the campsite. Lots of brookies but you might want to think about a belly boat if you can. Good luck
  12. I've known Pipestone for a long time, and have experienced the gopher fishing. I can't get to a river, and the weather has been crappy for the last week, so boredom has set in. Couldn't find any gophers, so started casting to my neighbors cat, barbless of course. Really quite interesting with the catch and release, claws and fur flying, yarn bits everywhere! I'm going to come up with a fly specifically for it. I think a green/ yellow yarn fly that looks like a frog and is twitched across wet grass should do the trick. They seem to be rather finicky about taking the fly, multiple casts before a strike seems to be the norm. Good for casting practice, don't hit the cat, place the fly behind and beside it, start retrieving, and see what happens! I went with a 5 wt TFO. Just for the record, barbless means no hook or metal, before the cat people get too mad. A small bag of catnip as the core of the frog might be interesting.
