Awesome! #2 is on it's way to looking more like a football than a fish, and #3 is just a monster all around . I'm interested in doing some stillwater stuff, and hoping to get out a few times this fall. So, is this typical of what the "expectation" is from folks for QSF waters? I've certainly read lots here about disappointment with how some of those lakes are producing, but your outing seem to argue the point. Of course, I'm making the grand assumption that this was actually at one of those lakes.

The risk of showing up en masse is that with this being a first appearance, it may be a very quick hearing with no outcome. The accused might not even be there if they have legal representation (or they might just not show if they are "unconcerned", and then have a warrant issued). I think the waders idea is pretty cool, but you might get a hassle from security (and be sure not to have any foreceps or nippers in your pockets). Haven't been to the Pincher courthouse, but security is tight at Lethbridge.

I've not seen them in store here in Lethbridge, and can't find them on their website. Online, there seems to be lot's of options available stateside, but can't find any here. If anyone sources them, please let us know.

Awesome pics! Can't say I blame the little fella. I wouldn't want to kiss a walleye either... between the teeth and the fin spikes, I was lambasted more than a few times when we fished them as a kid. Arguably still the best tasting freshwater fish I've ever had though.

I'm betting that the 17-18C surface water temps I saw on the Crow last Saturday will be noticeably higher than that now. 37C in Lethbridge right now (but with the wind it only feels like 36!), and the Crowsnest Pass currently is 29C. 2-4mm rain forecast for CNP on both Friday and Saturday, and daytime highs moving down to the mid to high teens there for several days starting Saturday. Maybe the change in weather will even things out by early to middle of next week. Here's hopin' (and not just for the sake of fishing, but for the fish themselves).

I'd be curious what a straw poll would say about folks who were not planning to venture out to the places listed under "not yet closed", but are now considering doing so because of closures of their regular beats. Smokin hot down south for the next few days... mid 30's in Lethbridge and pushing 30 in the mountain areas. I was getting surface temps on the Crow this past weekend around 17-18C, so can only imagine what another week of hot weather and no rain will do there. Think I will put the gear away pending the cooler weather (and hopefully a tiny bit of rain) that's supposed to be on our way.

As much as I hate to say it, I wonder if a region-wide closure may have been a better tactic. Additional pressure on Upper Oldman area and Crow can't be a good thing. Based on the email, it looks like they may be taking a week-to-week approach with this, so might not see anything further until next Monday/Tuesday.

Nope, sure didn't. My frame of civil liberty is impacted very little by firearm registries or restrictions on the type of firearms one is allowed to legally possess here, hence it not being an election issue for me. Last time I checked, part of my "freedom" was being able to make conscious decisions about what factors are personally most important to weigh when deciding who to cast my ballot for (I think our Charter might say something along those lines in the "fundamentals" section). You go ahead and tell me all you want what you think is an important element of my freedom, and I can choose to agree or disagree... ain't Canada great! BTW, the Supreme Court has disagreed about firearm ownership being a right/freedom in Canada.

So, you must lie awake at night worrying that the government is going to come and take your truck away (along with your house, marriage and kids). After all, they're all registered with the government, no?! Hate to tell you this, but the gun registry is so far off my "give-a-damn" radar that it would take something awfully radical on either side of the spectrum to make it an election issue for me (and probably the same goes for the other 70+% of non gun owning Canadians). Maybe I'd be more passionate if I was a hunter.

Good to know. Now here's hopin' I never have to use the warranty on mine. So long as I don't let my near-teenage son touch it, I think I stand a better chance. He is a little hard on rods (not Winstons), having lost a couple sections of one and a broken tip on another in the past couple months.

Did they ever release names on the Upper Oldman group of 6, or do we have to wait for the court date? Any FFC folk from Pincher wanna go hang out in Court on Sept 29th and let us know the outcome?

I think that example is maybe an exception to the weight difference. The ones I have been looking at in 9' versus 10' have tended to weigh in at about 1/2 an ounce difference. Maybe some other factors might come into play too, like balance point, and maybe a slightly larger size of a reel as a result (I'm really reaching here I think). But even accounting for all that, I'm not sure an amateur like me would notice even a half ounce difference over the course of an outing, would I?

Preference for those that do... when wearing neoprene socks... do you wear regular socks underneath?

Anyone have experience or thoughts on the use of 10' rods in heavier weights, say 8wt and up? I'm looking for a pike rod, and noticed a 10' 8wt for sale here. That got me thinking about the actual benefits or challenges of a longer rod in this category. I've certainly read that there is some added benefit of longer rods for mending/line control, but that is probably moot for my purposes. Any other thoughts generally on the +/- of a ten footer?

Never tented there before, but love the Going-to-the-Sun. If you haven't found their plowing pics yet, they're a hoot. Lots of trails were still closed in mid-July last year when we were there, but looks like maybe less snow this year, so hopefully will be a bit drier by the time you are heading out.
