  1. its like putting rubber legs on any fly (wooly bugger???), makes it more buggy. This bug actually has legs though, they belong there, not to mention their legs are pretty long. Just saying.
  2. Yea it works and no the legs arent a problem. These flies work excellent, I wouldn't post if they didn't lol!! IMO this is an excellent looking pattern and works f'ing awesome! Look at Murray's pattern, he got tons of love for it and the legs are twice as long as the body lol!! I tie all my boatman patterns with long legs and cut them as the situation would require. Go back and look at the first picture in the thread, boatman with shorter legs. I cant speak for everybody but Ive never used a better/more productive boatman pattern than the one i tie. This is also a really small fly which makes the legs look big.
  3. i work there!
  4. then there were 2
  5. He wasnt there last night.
  6. He was there again last night. Hanging out under the dock right you walk onto it, I have some more pics and a little footage, his tail is huge. Is there a problem having this fish in our lake?? if not I sure hope some fool doesnt wack it.
  7. the fly of choice the last two days is a Beadhead Hares Ear Nymph, hes been using the sinking line and as previously stated, is up on me by 8 Ive added splitshot but still aint getting as many
  8. soon as they can hold the rod i dont know how many times ive said it to my kids "whatever you do, dont let go of the rod" Im not sure if thats a smile or a grimace, he was struggling to hold that bad boy up for the shot lol!!! the opening on that net is 19.5" im guessing that fish is 20-22 and fat!!! needless to say he was pretty stoked
  9. Im 8 behind in the official count! definitely fish of the day
  10. its in mckenzie lake, saw him/her last night!
  11. i couldnt tell, my guess would be around 10lbs. this is huge fish. anyone know what it is?
  12. The fly did make it in the picture, its laying in the sand, in the water under the fish I just noticed that while showing someone these pics lol!! was thinking at the time, "darn, i didn't get the fly in that pic" green bead and wings! Now that I see it I dont know how I ever didn't!
  13. aah there it is. not a great look at it but this should be a good fly ontop or higher in the water. you can make your legs as short or as long or as dense as you want them. Im going to tie a few more of these, fatter and wider.
  14. Man i cant post the final pic, photobucket is having issues right now. cant logout or anything
  15. Back in the day Fish Tales had a small amount of these, I think one of the guys there tied this fly. Very basic, Thread, white styrofoam coffee cup and pheasant tail. This was over 10 years ago and i recall that fly to have looked different than this one but thought I would give it a try today as it is Boatman season. I never had a list of materials or anything just remember having one, using it and catching fish. Beings that its tied with coffee cup foam it didnt last long. I ASSUME this is something how it went its the thickest right around the rim little blurry but youll still get it. I cut a little taper in the tail end of the foam for shape, added head cement to the thread and affixed a piece both on the top and bottom of the hook shank at this point, i added head cement to the outside of the fly waited a minute then used needle nose pliers to gently form the body, these bugs are typically flat and wide. again, blurry but you can see it. add thread for body shape, colour, strength, etc. pull the PT over, tie it down, pull the fibres back and use for your legs. As simple as it gets. Cant wait to go out and try it. First Im going to tie 10 more so that they look better. This was my first go at this fly from long ago. Next one will be a little fatter and will have the legs more at an angle pointing downwards. Photobucket just crashed, hoping this all works out.
  16. Been tying up your boatman pattern (murray), just in a slightly different colour. I love the long biot legs. it works well
  17. Looks sweet man.
  18. NIce fly Don, that looks like a very effective pattern.
  19. yea but with the "scorpiondeathlock"...
  20. Its just me and a buddy that doesn't fly fish much, I wouldn't consider him a winner lol!! It wasn't contest, was just looking for some names as Ive basically used the same guy each time I go out. Luckily our date changed and he is free that day Thanks to everyone that responded. Hopefully the weather cooperates and we have a great day on the water.
