  1. So you changed your mind on Ross's Beulah 5/6?. Theres a few guy that fish the Deer Creek here so they should be able to give you some advice on lines, although I would think that the Beulah Elixir line or a CND GPS 5/6 would work well. Canada Post is a wonderful thing and overseas packages are easy to put together. Colin
  2. I'll drop you an email, and we can meet up, probably the weekend would be best. Colin
  3. Best bet would be to let me have a look at it and assess it from there. Colin
  4. You could do a repair, but there's no real guarantee of how long it will last. It would be fairly easy to remove the old epoxy and thread from the ferrule wrap and re-wrap it, how long of a crack is it? Any repair would have to stop it from moving anymore. Colin
  5. Is the female end cracked at all? If not you might be able to cut the male end a little to allow the female part to fit over better/deeper. (why do I all of a sudden feel so dirty?). If it is a cracked ferrule and depending on how bad a crack, you will probably need a re-wrap/finish of the area to strengthen it up again. If you want me to take a look at it drop me a PM. Colin
  6. My fave if you can find it. http://www.scapamalt.com/history/index.aspx Colin
  7. I do the same with the big stick, first thing I was taught when I got into the spey game (thanks Courtney).
  8. Hey its not like I'm trying to pull my truck, just a light stretch of the line. Some tackle shop owner on the island told me about that method. Ice fishing for Kokanee eh? Think I'm gonna have to try for a couple Canadians right now. Colin
  9. Hardy running line was like a slinky in the below freezing temp, Outbound was a typical coil as well (didn't do the tie off to bumper trick and stretch before using trick). Perhaps the standing on an ice shelf as opposed to being in the water and having any extra line in the water was a factor as well. the guys using the Elixirs didn't seem to have any problem so i guess its time to change for the winter (still like the Mach 1 salmon in the summer though). One of my favorite places to be. June in the Chilkotin a mountain top lake in the lower Mainland My wifes first Bow River Bow, on a cold December morning to boot The little one giving me some pointers Colin
  11. 3 down many more to go, have to make sure I've got the number programmed in my new phone. They couldn't have been the most experienced poachers around, normally when you pull out a cell phone and start talking on it when poachers are around they tend to high tail it out of there, these guys just kept on casting oblivious to anything, next time though I won't be talking to the wife I'll be calling the CO's. Colin
  12. Gonna have to bug Courtney for some Elixirs when he's here, the guys didn't seem to have any problems with them today. By the way I haven't seen so many Beulah rods in one place since I was on the Island Colin
  13. Yes it was great meeting everyone, need to get a couple lines that don't coil up so much in the colder temps here though, what a pain in the butt!! Colin
  14. I'd be interested in this as well, getting itchy to get out. Colin
  15. One of each Alberta game fish on the fly, its gonna be a busy year for me. Colin
  16. If you can wait for Islandguy to return from Prince George, he should be able to provide you with a couple options as I believe he has the same rod or at least a similar 6pc Lami (replaced 4 guides for him last spring). Colin
  17. heres some info on making your own. http://globalflyfisher.com/fishbetter/henk/henk1.htm Colin
  18. Well got my copy for Xmas, wife ended up contacting Jim directly and he gave her a signed copy of the revised edition. Best part was he came into town and met her at a mall, definitely above and beyond what was expected. Looking forward to seeing him at the show and thanking him in person. Colin
  19. Hi Rob, took you long enough. Colin
  20. Thanks, now how to find out if the wife found a copy or not. Would hate to end up with 2 copies Colin
  21. I'd contact Dave Allen at Five Fathoms Tattoo shop in Vernon BC, Avid fly fisherman and spey caster, does some incredible fishing related tattooo's. No I don't have one.....yet!! Colin
  22. No noisier than a spey line, just make sure you have a high (11 o'clock) positive stop on the forward cast. Colin
  23. I toss a 10wt Outbound on my 10'6 7/8 switch when overhead casting off the beach. 420grains turns this rod into a cannon and 100ft+ casts are easy with a single back cast, as far as a spey line its a bit of a dud. I will be using this combination for pike fishing, should toss those big streamers way out there. Colin
  24. If you get the blank to me quick enough I could get it done before the show, only 2 rods on the go at the moment plus a 10'6 4/5 Switch for myself. That Sage is going in the mail tomorrow. Colin
  25. I'm sure Don could point you in the direction of some usable cane. For planes you might want to check out Lee Valley, not sure how they compare budget wise but you're not buying forms so spend a little more on a good plane, you'll use it again anyways. Colin
