  1. Light a small fire on top the ant hill. The ants will panic and carry the queen ant out of the hill in an attempt to save the colony. KILL HER!
  2. Bought mine new in Feb 2005. Hyde brought it up to the FF Expo with them. Paid about the same as I see a lot of guys selling for used. I wouldn't be concerned about the used boat; I'm sure it will float. However, don't discount the condition of the trailer and ensure there are fresh repacked bearings. If you can swing it try and get them to throw in counter balanced oars instead of the regular, you'll be glad you did.
  3. Wow, that must have been beautiful (yet regretfully cold) to be up there with all that snow. Congrats.
  4. Great story and beautiful fish! Would like to get up there some day.

    Golden Trout

Congrats dude, first a bronze medal in CJ92 games and now a Gold in Trout
  6. For Golden's I have hiked a few times, taken a helicopter, and this year have a 5 day horse pack trip setup for July. Personally, I think the mode of transport is irrelevant as long as a high level of environmental stewardship is maintained. As witnessed last year at Barnaby there are just as many douche bag slobs with physical ability as there are without. Iasgair, you said you are limited to 1 day but I would urge you to reconsider and at least plan for one overnight. I don't believe that Ice Field Helicopters charges extra for that. If you fly in for just a day you will miss the two best times for fishing; dawn and dusk. Michel lake is a featureless lake that has one shallow flat that the fish move up on only at those times. Otherwise, long line nymph under an indicator and wait.
  7. Nice pictures. Is that Blackett's lake?
  8. Just for the record, the 3 of us would have made the hike in the morning if it wasn't for your pattern.
  9. Great video Liam. Your lucky, tried a few times but haven't gotten anything but little snapper out of the Tarpon hole and only cast to 1 Tarpon down there but FTU. Maybe this year, 19 days and counting
  10. All 3 prizes were drawn and the winners contacted. 2nd prize went to a non-flyfisher who is now eager to learn. Not sure if the others are members of this board. Thanks to those here who supported Alberta Stream Watch!
  11. Sorry Vic, not this time 1st prize went to someone in the Hook & Hackle club though.
  12. Come on down to FishTales for a last minute Alberta StreamWatch raffle ticket and/or witness the draw.
  13. If you only bought those lines last year then I would box them up and ship them to Cortland with a note explaining the situation. I've always had excellent service from those guys and have had lines replaced for nothing. (when warranted of course)
  14. Ironically, Cape Breton Island just announced yesterday plans to open the Donkin coal mine that contains type A bituminous coal which is considered the dirtiest of all coals and worst polluting coal in the world with high levels of sulfur, mercury and uranium. Due to the environmental standards set by the Nova Scotia government they won't even be able to sell this coking coal to Nova Scotia's Lingan Coal fired Power Plant which is basically just down the road from the mine. Most all the coal will be shipped to Europe, South America, India and China to pollute their countries. It really is all about jobs.
  15. A friend of mine as put together a few rods for me on both Sage and Scott blanks. The advantage of the custom rod is you can get better components such as guides and reel seat for the same price you'd pay for a ready built. But one disadvantage I could see with buying off of Ebay is that if you break something on your custom then you'd have to find someone to fix it for you because you can't send it to the manufacturer as they will only repair the blank.
  16. Sorry someone beat you to it.
  17. Still one ticket left for Friday night.
  18. I have 2 sets of tickets for the Festival this weekend to give away for each night. (2 tickets per night) If you can go both nights respond to this thread. First 2 to respond can have them. PM me your full name. Bring 5 bucks to support Stream Watch
  19. Thanks to Michelle at Bower River Shuttles I will have a table setup before the films at the Back Cast Film Festival each night for anyone interest in purchasing a raffle ticket.
  20. Hey Brian, do you have online banking? You could send an email money transfer to streamwatchraffle@flyfishingthebow.com.
  21. Rickr, the draw will be March 6th at FishTales so hopefully up to and including that day.
  22. Thanks to everyone who dropped by and said hi and supported Stream Watch at the Expo last weekend! Good luck to everyone who bought a ticket so far, odds look pretty good.
  23. Good to meet you finally Jack and thanks again. Hopefully will see you in the Fall.
  24. Thanks to those who bought raffle tickets so far to support Stream Watch! It's been great meeting lots more, seeing people I haven't seen in a while, and even getting a couple of "remember me" moments from folks I haven't seen in years. One more day.
  25. Complete contest rules can be found HERE 100 % of proceeds will be used to support Alberta Stream Watch Donated by WestJet Airlines: 1st Prize - Yes free means free! This return flight voucher for 2 includes all air travel fees, taxes and surcharges! Fly to any regular scheduled WestJet destination. Not only does WestJet fly to many Canadian and US cities, we also fly to many sun destinations including Hawaii, Bahamas and Mexico. First prize comes from Canada's friendliest airline, 2nd prize comes from Calgary's friendliest fly shop.... Donated by Fish Tales Fly Shop: 2nd Prize - Sage Flight fly rod. The winner of this prize gets to pick the weight of their choice. Sage Flight model (from their website); "Through a further application of the analysis and construction methods developed for our G5 Technology, we’ve completely updated our FLi Series with a range of even lighter, smoother fly rods. Introducing the all-new Flight Series. Now you’ll be able to generate high line speed and feel the rod load more precisely for improved power transfer and efficiency. In fishing situations, that means you will instinctively cast better without having to think about it." 3rd Prize fly rod donated by Amundson Outdoors. Thanks to Bow River Troutfitters for donating the 3rd prize Ross reel. Top Fly rod (From the Amundson Outdoor website) "This rod gives fly anglers reliable and consistent performance. By combining 43 and 50 million modulus graphite with a fast-taper design, Top Fly will produce tighter loops and greater casting distances. It is the “flag ship” that performs at the highest level and at a price that is very affordable." I had the opportunity to try this particular model (8' 4 wt) during an annual Golden Trout trip. The first thing I noticed after casting this rod is that it is far superior than most fly rod's in it's price range. Check this and other Amundson fly rods out at the Amundson Outdoors booth at the Fly Fishing Exposition. I will be selling tickets for this raffle at this year's Fly Fishing Exposition January 22nd, 23rd, and 24th. Look for the Stream Watch Raffle booth. Come and purchase tickets to raise money to support Stream Watch's efforts to protect the Alberta streams & rivers that we all love! Hope to see you all there! If you cannot make it to this year's Fly Fishing Exposition click HERE to find out how to purchase tickets. SPECIAL THANKS TO THE BIRD FAMILY FOR BOOTH SPACE AT THE CALGARY FLY FISHING EXPOSITION.
