  1. I pan sometimes when I fish... usually two seperate trips. there is okay flour gold in alberta, mostly up north. $20 worth of alberta gold would be hard to believe out of the Bow - very very very little gold there. I suspect he was stretch the truth by about $19.99.
  2. I use watchmaker cases from lee valley tools for the standard hooks (not great for streamers, but most anything else... http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx...326&p=44948
  3. I haven't checked it out - the trailer was enough to dry up my appetite. They just seem(ed) like a bunch of young kids pretending to be "trout bums". Trout bums with great paying, fish catching jobs.... and they complained about it???
  4. Pretty sure Jimmy Buffet is 10 degrees of awesome... or 92 degrees in the shade awesome (depending on the company he is keeping at the time)...
  5. Kyle, Love the bugger with the blue flash in it. Started adding that myself a couple of season ago and had some great results. Nice ties.
  6. Not a pro - but I use the Corland 444 Classic DT in peach on my 3wt and have been very pleased with it. My 3wt is a bit on the slow/medium side.
  7. Very talented and often quite funny writer - will poor a sip of beer next time I have a cold one.
  8. I have never thought of cleaning my rod...
  9. couldn't agree more - started with 6/0 for some of the larger stuff, but the bulk adds up pretty quickly, so I have almost completely switched to 8/0 for most of my tying... great new season by the way, didn't catch them all as I have crazy young kids that sometimes are up way to much in the night to allow me to be up that early! Cheers, *Edit* meant to include a link to FTAA http://kwsu.org/Offers/FlyTying.aspx Great information here for beginners to "expert" (if there really is such a thing)
  10. it depends on what you are tying for. Do you need flies to feed yourself come summer (ie guiding)? then follow Max's advice. Do you oly use your flies for your fishing? Then tie what you are into in that particular moment - take your time and enjoy every thread wrap (said crown royal help with the enjoyment!) I am somewhere in between - would only tie for myself, but my "friends" (read friends as "people that show up just before the season opens with empty boxes and a dumb looking grin") always seem to enjoy my flies - so for me it boils down to drunk 'production' typing.... friends get the ones I ties towards the end of the night...
  11. One of my all time favorite books has to be The Longest Silence by Thomas McGuane. Or 92 in the shade - probably his most critically aclaimed.
  12. I believe it was originally a series of posts on the drake board. There are a few books that have gotten their start through the Drake - the next on deck will be the Cracked Windshield Cronicles.
  13. One of the beauties of fly fishing is that the hook can more often than not be removed without ever taking the fish out of the water - keep the pictures in your mind for those long winter nights.... (okay okay I am guilty of some hero shots - pretty hard to resist sometimes)
  14. donation sent - sorry for the last minute add... don't know how I miss the thread. great cause. Brian.
