  1. Almost all fish were landed on that little leech I tie (...bloom's leech). Catatonic leeching. Hooked a lot more than we landed, but so many came off due to their soft mouths.
  2. Saw that too. Haven't hit Bullshead since late July, but I have some work to do out in Elkwater this week, and if I go by myself, I'll stop and take a look at the lake. It does hit depths at around 22', but this is Southern Alberta and we have to expect these conditions. Tough to moan and groan about it when we live in a desert.
  3. I use to love that river...my favourite in fact, but I've spent 6 days in the pass since July 1 and not once did I head North on the trunk road. I've found that there is just so much other water in that area that doesn't get pounded that it's tough to head North. I feel bad for it.
  4. When I took the boating test a few years ago I got into an argument regarding some of the rules. Due to the length, the instructor was adament that I needed a bailing bucket, and I couldn't get him to change his mind
  5. That's the one I got off ebay. No concerns with it. Have never had the pieces pull apart when we didn't want them to.
  6. I bought one off ebay for my Father, and they work quite good. It's shock cord and folds up into ~10''. Fits in a little pouch that loops onto his wading belt. Make sure it's tied to the pouch. I've used it a few times and it does make a world of difference.
  7. People will just reel in and give you room to play your fish. You also try to take your fish out of the area.
  8. It's actually not that bad guys. My first experience with this was fishing for pinks when they come up the river in the evening. I was the first at the pool and was just blind casting before the pinks came in. When they started coming in, people started coming out of the woodwork (ie. camp near bay) there were literally 50+ people in one large pool, and both sides were packed. I could literally touch the person beside me with my rod. Towards the end of the evening, someone even launched a row boat to the middle of the pool. If I would have came later, I never would have joined and missed out on a lot of fun. The people were very amiable and respectful. I since come across situations in BC where the pools are crowded and the first thing you here is "jump in here, there's lots of room" And lots of room would be considered what you see above. Don't skip the salmon fishing because there's crowds. If the salmon are there in any size numbers, so will be the people.
  9. That may have worked for me too, and I'm using explorer.
  10. Ha....if i'm going down, I'm taking all you guys with me!
  11. Tried the above twice and still have the same problem. Did this work for anyone else? I believe FlyBC uses the same forum software and I don't have the problem there???
  12. Fishtales is basically it for 'touching' before you buy in Calgary. I've come across some other minimal supplies (Russels) but not worth your time to go check them out (Russels did use to have a box of cork you could go through though). I get most of my stuff through Andy too, or I order straight from the dealer (ie. Dan Craft and REC). I got three rods I didn't finish this winter and will start up again when the snow falls.
  13. So for some reason, I'm having problems staying logged in. I'm making sure the "remember me" box is checked, but every time I come back, I have to log in again. I thought this came up before, but can't find a thing with the search function. This worked normal until about a week ago.

    Wet Wading

Ahh, they're just glorified skater shorts How about the worries of something flying/crawling up those baggy shorts! Tried yet wading down south yesterday and it was COLD! So cold I couldn't even hold my hand in the water for a minute (had to try while I was drinking a beer) ps. It also doesn't matter how much water you drink before you go if you then drink beer on the river. Totally dehydrated and stiff by the end of the day. Sorry to say, but when it's 30C, no food and hiking all day...beer is bad. But it did taste good Harry.
  15. For articles on catch and release techniques, how about the one in the fishing regs!

    Wet Wading

Wading boots with socks. Change into sandals back at the car. I"ve done the sandles thing...high end to water shoes. Just don't trust them...ie turned ankle, slipping on rocks etc. I fish alone alot so I don't want to spend any unnecessary nights on the river. I'm now just trying to deal with the problem of all the scraped legs when I'm bushwhacking. (No, I won't try the New Zealand thing of wearing long underwear under my shorts). It's down to deciding between the scrapes and bruises to lightweight pants.
  17. buy the best you can so you're not wanting another for at least a few more years. For reels go with islander or hardy (love the hardy lightweight sereies on a dry fly rod) and for rods stick to sage or loomis.
  18. Hey, is that a new camera!
  19. I believe Clive mentioned that his 'best selling' book is currently out of print, but he may have a couple of copies at home. And I believe it really is only a couple. He'll pop up here sooner or later though.
  20. Fixing the dam is still in the plans I believe...just got postponed. I don't think they'll be draining it all the way, therefore there won't be a sucker kill off. Too bad, maybe we'll just have to get them to stock browns in there so there's a predator
  21. I've been trying eggs in both rivers (crow and bow mostly) and lakes (Bullshead) for a few years now, and haven't found them to be all that good. I do get fish on them, but I don't think I've ever thought they were 'the ticket' for that day.
  22. Thanks to LoneFisher's advice I got one big 'bow, and a bunch of smallish bulls (~18'') on on leech patterns under an indicator (catonic leech). The best patterns were a brown or black one that LoneFisher ties, and the little leech that I use (emerging leech...bloom's leech). This was about a month ago and things may have changed, but catatonic leeching is deadly anywhere for anyfish. Even landed a 4lb sucker on my little leech out of Lower K.
  23. Beatuiful area... and that's a nice size fish for that creek. I've heard of bigger, but when I catch a 12'', that's a trophy.
  24. http://www.medicinehatnews.com/article_5932.php The radio was saying that he was from Calgary. Scary thing is that a few people off this board (who I've never met) had emailed me and said they would be fishing it this week. Will have to wait for more news.
  25. Looks good...with boards that have so many sections though, I always miss things cause I'm too lazy to scroll down to check what's being posted in the other parts. Best part of your other board was the 'last 50 posts' link. I just bookmarked it and went straight there every time I visited.
