Yup, I even have command start so if I wake up in the middle of the night freezing, just push the button and the heat comes on (truck automatically turns off after 15 min too)

Another Haig Brown fan here. It's a different, older style of writing...not so much the 'how to' or 'destination' writing you see today. You can even make a trip to Campbell River to do some salmon fishing and see his house on the river (tours are cool too)

We actually have the same plan! I started sleeping in the Avalanche last summer and I love the whole 'laziness' around it.

Wow, coming from the guy that use to use duck tape on his boots to keep them together...if the Simms are holding up for you, that works for me

Hey the FlyBC Spring Fish in is focused around two of the member's wedding. Why not do the same here ?

Think you would have to pick a place away from the masses...don't want to get a bad name by putting 30 or 40 on the upper highwood where everyone else fishes. Too me, the best places would be somewhere south around the Castle drainage, or Bullshead (there's a bunch of group sites at Elkwater)

Just like any other time I think I need something...i go overboard. I'm now leaning to two pairs...simms felt, and simms aquastealth with studs. Should have everything covered here now eh? Got talking to a few people who were amazed I only had one pair of boots for all situations...I guess I was falling behind in the gear race...time to catch up again

I'm always up for a fish-in! We've tried these before, but never panned out. Hopefully one gets going. It's always good for a few fish and laughs.

looks fine...couple of thoughts: 1. move the tail further back...it usually starts right above the barb. 2. The brown hackle is usually undersized, which is what you have here (regular size goes a little bit longer to reach the point). 3. For the grizzly hackle, go over-sized. It's much too small here...over-sized will help the big fly float better in the rough water.

Watching "team Toolman" On Fishing With Dodger..

Got to get Walker1 on this team. Not only does he like fishing and drinking, but he always brings the beer! (It's Keith's, but it's tough to complain about free beer) -

Spratleys are one heck of a boat...it you got the cash and are serious about a 10', go for the Spratley

I have a 1236 jon boat. It's a flat bottom aluminum boat with a flat front. Great for standing and fly fishing in (mine's 12' long though). A jon boat is probably what you're looking for. Tough to find in Alberta, but really popular for lake fishing in BC

Bought a new pair last winter, but still haven't gotten around to using them yet. There's something to say about an old comfortable pair that doesn't stress you out when you crawl around on your hands and knees. Ended up buying a pair of patagonias. Deal was too good to pass up and they have the closest thing to an unconditional warranty in the wader business. Check out the info on waders here: http://www.flybc.ca/forum/index.php?showtopic=6936 Good info from people in the business. I did a lot of research last winter and I beleive the consensus was: Simms, Patagonia, and Dan Bailey that came up the most. (Simms by far the most popular though)

So, I'm in the market for new boots (no surprise to those I've fished with this year). Some of the things I'm looking for are: 1. Durability 2. Safety/Ankle support (fish a lot my myself) 3. Lightweight (I cover a lot of water when I'm fishing) Cost really isn't a concern right now. Anyone use studs around here? How much of a difference do they make in Alberta waters?

Just what I was thinking...besides Sara's, Goat Mt cabins, and Angler's Ridge, there is one more B&B right by the 507 bridge. Never stayed there but have heard some people say some good things about it. All 3 B&B's are situated by some good water too!

Been using Frog Hair ever since thier first visit to the fly fishing expo a few years back...they sold me on their stuff. Really like the flouro for the suppleness and thin diameter. Never been to Westwinds, but love Fishtales.

Hey Clarki, if you're from the Hat, come out to the Cypress Fly Fishing Club meetings over the winter. Will help with your fishing fix when you can't hit the river. Take care

Chronie fishing is great in the spring. No triploids, but hopefully soon to come!

For good or bad, I know we've mostly been 'lucky' regarding Bullshead. The people with Muir put more time and research into their start up, but have not come close to the results Bullshead has had. Sometimes you just need some things to go your way, and here's what I think they were: 1. The word on Bullshead didn't really get out until the fish had a few years to grow (and those first few years of growing were incredible...never to be seen again on that lake). These fish weren't hammered from the get go! 2. That lake can grow some fish, and it's big enough to spread the pressure around. 3. Everyone was on board...ok this one wasn't mostly luck. There was a lot of work done to get all types of fisherman to buy in. Even things as simple as helping out kids and the 'ma and pa' types on shore who couldn't catch a fish. 4. It's not the most technical fishery. If the stocking rates went WAY down, fish would get bigger, but the catch rates go down. People start complaining to the powers that be and these delayed harvest lakes start having a negative connotation to them. 5. Wasn't a whole lot for people to complain about...everyone was catching fish (even 'keepers'), there were other lakes around where you could keep your five 12'', there's a decent boat launch and bathroom, etc. Hopefully things go well for Police. I still think there's a lot of luck in it but I'm already looking forward to fishing it! I love the idea of a campground on site. Spend the day fishing, then the night having some pops by the lake, and waking up with the boat all ready to go! ps. Got to love that little leech under an indicator...I remember 5 years ago you couldn't find an indicator on a line to save your life. Now it's probably around 75% of fish caught on that lake are by using indicators. I love that style...sort of has the whole 'visual' aspect of dry fly fishing to it.

Good stuff, can't believe how warm it's been here lately (up to about 27 C yesterday). Of course some wind comes with it though. When it drops down (to only about 15) the wind drops too and they's probably been some great days out at Bullshead because of this. Too bad I never got to enjoy it. Already looking forward to April 1 next year.
