  1. no figured in case i didnt like it and want to sell it. choose the option for free backing. just arrived at my bros place in the states, and no backing (but he had no idea what backing was).

Have you decided what your getting birchy? may have my old orvis for sale if your interested.

I have no clue really.. I've been wiffle waffling for so long now. Originally I was liking the Greys GRXi with the fifty seven extra spools! Then I was liking the Orvis Mach IV.. then the Battenkill once you mentioned it.. now I'm liking the Pflueger President that the guys mentioned above.. I have no clue man. I'll probably wait until next spring now..

  2. Funny thread. I... uhh... have caught more of my biggest fish, on dries, than any other method. And I don't catch just little "time wasting piddlers" or whatever this dude calls 'em.

Streamers is a great way as well. Dark days, early morning, or late evening are your best times. Olive/ Black / brown are your best colors. Your absolute best shot at huge fish on the bow is just after runoff, when theres a lot of water in it and about 1-2 feet of vis. Throw those big 'ol streamers in and fish them a foot or less off deep slow shores. And hang on.......

And I'll have to say this. Up to about 6 or 7 years ago (maybe even 10) I would toss "cranks" into the bow. For those that say the sjw hooks fish badly, go watch someone cranking them. about 80% of those fish go back with scars/cutts/gouged eyes, etc. That's why I quit doing it. 'd suggest you do the same Steelhead.... or at least cut 'em back to one single hook somewhere.

Psssft! Whatta YOU know Brian.. you were just a guide! ;)

wait for the sharkskin..expensive. but holy hell, you'll enjoy it

Better for dry fly fishing Brent??

I was going to pick up myself some of that SA Mastery Nymph taper for nymphing and then the GPX or Trout taper for dries...

  4. ice chart

maybe do some research before you open that mouth of yours, 3 inches of black(clear) ice is perfectly safe. Ice picks, lifejackets and a throw rope should also be brought with incase the worst does happen.

You're correct in that statement Kyle.. the only problem is we rarely see black clear ice anywhere in Canada with all the wind and debris blown onto the water. Also, just because the ice is 3 inches in one spot.. doesn't mean it's 3 inches everywhere. Underwater springs and currents make the ice very unstable in places.

Although I'm sure you know this.. alot of the guys probably just didn't agree with your generalization.

I always go out on ice that's thinner than probably safe too (and fallen through more times than I can count)... so i'm not raggin on ya... just saying what the rest of the guys are probably thinking.
