Put A Power Boat Ban On The Bow
robert replied to Fishslayer74's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Yep, the word ban, gotta love it. How many things are now banned and deemed illegal cause people were abusing the system and doing what they wanted, where they wanted. ATV's and OHV's are a prime example. It only takes a few to spoil it for the rest. How long before more jet bans are put in place. It's up to the user of anything, jet's included to educate those that don't use common sense - cause in the end, it hurts all users. Jet's don't bother me at all - some people do - but that's just me. I spend most of my time in the city and have the fire department come by quite a bit. They slow down and wave, still creates a heck of a wake at the shoreline but it doesn't matter. -
Maayyyybeee... I should have read that before I hit post

Hey Matt, long time no hear... You being terrified of her getting bored isn't a great start. I remember trying to teach ex's how to drive a stick - doesn't usually end well, expectations are different and frustrations can ensue. Casting and fishing lessons are great on land, and on a river, they generally spend more time trying to hook a fish rather than learning.

Redington carries lots of sizes. Unfortunately for me, the breathables I have cost over $300 due to my long inseams. Breathables are the way to go, both summer and winter - and to keep warm in the cold waters, a basic pair of thin nylon pants are the ticket. Check out the Reds, i'm impressed with mine.

Homewaters Fly Fishing Pictures 2012 Winter/spring
robert replied to EliteFisherman's topic in Photo Posts
I love how people throw in the "I don't know why so and so pays for this site" like it costs a fortune to do so. I host 5 sites with 3 chat forums, $10.00 a year for each domain name and $50.00 for the hosting. $100.00 a year all in. Software to drive the forums is free - tho IPB has started charging lately. -
The Cat, The Eagle And The Fox

Pretty cool indeed. Not every day you get up close with one or the other -
Too funny. Nothing like sloppy seconds eh? Nice to know the fish are being released properly, catch and release really does work!

So did you get out today with the fiancee? how did it go?

Whitefish In The Bow...oh Where Do They Go?
robert replied to scel's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Yep, found one hole full of whiteys this week, lots of fun but no trout in amongst them. Damn they love to fight this time of year. -
Started a new job 2 months ago and it's seriously cutting into my fishing time. August was a blur, i'm still trying to figure out what happened to September. Sweet geebus, getting old sucks. Time moves faster, the barber is asking if I want two eyebrows instead of one and i'm forever taking the beard trimmer to my ears For all you young fellers, you'll get the joke when you turn 40 LOL Bought the neighbors young feller (6 years old) a new spin cast and took him out to chestermere for a few hours last week, that was the only time I wet a line in a month now. Had a good laugh tho, he hooked his first fish but got so scared he nearly pitched his new rod in the water LOL. I seriously need to get away - who's doing what the coming weekend? anyone heading west for a day trip?

Wireless Router Help Sought
robert replied to ÜberFly's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
The step by step manual is here: http://hawkingtech.com/index.php/products/...adfile/208.html (just a pdf doc) support page for your router is here: http://hawkingtech.com/index.php/products/...rs/hwrgm1a.html Login to the router with the user pass (default is admin/1234) and follow through the setup wizard link on the left. That will take you through the wireless settings as well. The SSID is your wireless network name, choose your security type and give it a password. Your broadband connection type should be cable modem - dynamic ip. I wouldn't worry about the software install. If you have questions, post back. -
Anyone Else Into Hot Sauces?!?
robert replied to robert's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
sweet, calgary locations... A friend gave me some home made salsa - really good out of the jar, so fresh. Had to try it jacked with jolokia - Wow Sean, i imagine one could use the seed from the peppers themselves eh? Any place in Calgary to buy the peppers? -
Anyone Else Into Hot Sauces?!?
robert replied to robert's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
ooooo, handle those puppies with care. Where did you get the plants? i'd love to try growing some. Are they indoors or out? -
Always been a junky for heat, will try anything put my way but when it comes to hot sauces - it's hard to find the heat with real flavor. Been looking around town for "holy jolokia" but I can't seem to find it - if anyone comes across it, please let me know. Just found some from hatari bros called "addiction naga jolokia" - pretty tasty stuff. The heat doesn't smack ya upside the head right away, but it does chase you around for a couple of hours LOL. I love it. What's your fav's?

Cool, I think next week i'm going to start collecting materials. Starting a new job on monday and they are promising lots of hours and projects upcoming so I don't know if i'll have much time.

thinking of getting into fly tying again, it's been so long that I don't even know where to begin. Looking at buying a basic vise and some tying materials but I don't want to go whole hog just yet. If you were to pick a half dozen flies to start with, what would you pick? And what would i need? Not looking to buy capes lol I remember as a kid, we used to gather all of our materials - moose/cariboo hides, squirrel tails, goose feathers etc. Use what we could find then buy the threads and what not...

There it is, the face... the "oh **** i'm addicted" look!! Congrats to her

I love that last picture of Bear and your daughter. It's hard to think of getting another dog after losing that one special friend - but sometimes it does help. After we lost Tia, I couldn't even think about getting another dog, just no way to replace her. But low and behold we had a pure bred bichon rescue dropped in our laps a few months later, hard to say no to a dog that was bounced around through 6 different homes. Honestly, I resented him for a while and felt guilty over having another dog in the house but it didn't take that "little white sheep" long to dig in and make himself part of the family. He seemed to know that we were grieving and he made me realize that he wasn't the replacement I was expecting... He turned out to be his own dog, totally different personality but loved just the same. He still suffers indignities at the hands of the girls (even tho they're grown now), they paint him up with bingo dabbers - he was a pumpkin for one halloween, braveheart for another, then a rainbow for another, the list goes on. rarely is he pure white. They painted Tia the same way... Time will make things easier, but it doesn't always heal...

Yeah, I don't think they have ever been either... I think back in Newfoundland, the stricter regs have actually contributed to more poaching sadly enough. When I fished salmon 20 years ago, barbed hooks didn't matter but now these are the current regs - Alberta is still gentle:

Good on ya 420, lots of idiots out there for sure... Why is it so hard to read and understand regs.

Why Do People Feel Like They Have To Argue?
robert replied to bhurt's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
Can't give you the key to success, but trying to please everyone is generally a key to failure. We have turned into an entitled society, everything should be easy and quick for people. I'm not in retail anymore but I still face alot of clients in the run of a week.
