Hi all, I seem to have a cousin, once removed living in Calgary. Since I'm visiting Calgary within 2 weeks my mother mentioned that she has a niece in Calcary and that her son flyfishes. His name is Vincent and he is in is thirties I think and of dutch origin although he was born in Canada his mother's name is Carla. Might be fun to meet if circumstances allow since I don't get the chance very often to meet relatives from Calgary... If anyone knows him maybe they could direct him to this post. My mother's name is Els van der Stad his mother will certainly know her.

In dry - dropper set ups I usually only have about 12" to 16" between the dry and the dropper. In my opinion 24" is a bit long unless you use a very heavy dropper in which case nymphing with multiple nymphs would work better I think. Most of the time when fishing like this I fish a large -well floating- dry fly size 6 - 10 with a size 12 - 18 snipe & purple which in most cases works fine for me...Haven't tried a dry dropper set up with a nymph pattern yet. Maybe my method wouldn't work so well on the other side of the pond which I will be crossing in less than two weeks...

Since a couple of years I mostly have been using the CDC & Elk in differnet colours and sizes, for nymphs I mostly use olive coloured nymphs on curved hooks tied with UV dub and rubber legs and for streamers I mostly use black wooly buggers. Most of the time these flies work fine for me... TL, Noud

Ok, you take the cake with you Rob...Glad I'm flying solo...2 weeks & counting.. By the way does anyone know a nice hotel in Calgary I could stay at sundaynight the 19th of september? I don't need 5 stars or something...Just that they have nice beds and my own bathroom with a bath so I can test my flies.... TL, Noud

About my other hobbies, I try to play the guitar and I practice Tang Soo Do (Korean Karate) I'm training real hard so I can fight off them bears when I go fishing on your side of the pond -

You can use your 6wt reel but not the line...a #6 spey line is very different from a normal #6 line (heavier) and will not fit on most 6 wt reels. You could use your 6wt reel with a 3 or 4 wt spey line on a 3 to 4 wt spey rod probably. I have a 7 wt spey rod with a 7/8 spey line and use a 9-11 reel for it. While spey casting you need less room behind you than with regular fly catsing. So that can come in handy in tight spots. Next to that it's easier to control large lengths of line with a longer rod on the water. And yes you can do it on the bow for sure. Never been there but you can do it on most rivers and streams...A small spring creek however may not be the ideal spot for spey fishing...

- DH for trout on the good side of the river is fun... - Speycasting is fun - When you go nymphing just tell you're buddy you are not good at nymphing and you will catch more than 30 - The CDC&ELK is a good bobber for a snipe & purple spider - The CDC&ELK can catch you good numbers of fish even in a mayfly hatch - Autumn 2010 is a long wait - Flyfishing is a good way to forget your personal troubles - Drinking whisky and playing with fire is not good for fleece sweaters - I love putti - I realy love putti - I love both floating putti and sinking putti - Floating putti is good when you keep forgetting to put on strike indicators before you tie on your nymphs - When you put a big chunck of sink putti on your leader it goes "ploop" when it hits the water - There are easy methods for making furled leaders - The CDC&ELK can catch good numbers of fish anywhere

About shack nasties..... I blew my chance at the Eurpean Championships in Tang Soo Do last May because I drank too much the night before my shot at the title. My girl friend cheated on me after 10 years together so I broke up with her this august. She took half of our stuff with her when she left. My TV set broke down a week ago. I'm bored to death by my work. I had a kidney infalmation tuesday the week before and ended up in hospital. I just ran out of the drugs that were prescribed for the inflamation that had the side effect of "an unfounded feeling of well-being/euphoria". I met a nice girl last weekend but couldn't invite her over because my ex was cleaning out her stuff and I didn't want to confront the nice girl with a nasty scene. My work just shifted location from a ten minutes bycicle ride to a one and a half hour drive by car on the condition that there is no heavy traffic. Everyone seems to pitty me at the moment I hate it when people pitty me..... So if you stay in the same SHACK as I do this winter.....You will end up NASTY
