What I know of New Zealand from other flyfishers is that the number of fish per km of river is much less than what we are used to in Northern America and Europe and that the fishing can be tough if you don't know where to fish. The average size of fish however is different as well...... You have to do quite some hiking to catch numbers from what I understand, although that can differ per river over there.

Up until now I have been using a head mount most of the time when filming point of view fishing scenes with my gopro but I'm looking into setting something up on the shoulder of my line hand (left shoulder). That will need some experimenting in the upcomming season. I had similar issues as you describe with using a chest mount.

For what it's worth, I only fished the bow once with a DH stick since I live on the other side of the pond but I used an Echo Dec Hogan #5 and it seemed to do the trick allright....

I think he means the left hand retrieve on one of your rods....Of which I say TWO of your reels are on your rods backwards...

Seeing a bow wave arise behind the muddler that you are stripping through the surface...From the until the moment the fish takes seems endless enough to me....Add still my heart stops when the water explodes although I am expecting it to.

Have never fished the Bow yet but what I have experienced goes for all rivers fished by me up until now. I swing streamers on evry type of water. Slow and deep flowing pools, runs, riffles just as long as it has enough current to move your flies. Most of the time I use a clear intermediate (very very slow sinking) polyleader and an unweighted streamer pattern with lots of movement in it. Big softhackles are good as well. As long as the water is less than 5 feet deep fish will often come up all the way to the surface to take your fly. Only when the action is very slow I will start using weighted flies and sink leaders. My friend Ducthdryfly started tossing speyflies for trout and grayling about 2 years ago and they work fine. Gonna try something like this on the Bow in about a week...

Nice fish & pics....The weather doesn't look that bad. If I could choose that weather for the three weeks that I will be fishing overthere next week I would sign off on that, I hardly see any wading jackets in your pics...

You know I love to make you guys feel good. That's what I go fishing with you guys for. On the days I go out alone I catch tons of fish....honestly.... Like Rob said...Although klutz fits better than monkey I think...I even once became runner up as klutz of the year on the BB of flyfisherman.com. I only lost to someone because he broke a limb....

Good one...Hadn't thought about that yet although I'm doing that myself with my rods I'm taking with me to Canada next week.

Orvis has a 7-piece frequent flyer rod in a six weight. I think it should even handle most larger fish well.
