  1. What I know of New Zealand from other flyfishers is that the number of fish per km of river is much less than what we are used to in Northern America and Europe and that the fishing can be tough if you don't know where to fish. The average size of fish however is different as well...... You have to do quite some hiking to catch numbers from what I understand, although that can differ per river over there.
  2. Up until now I have been using a head mount most of the time when filming point of view fishing scenes with my gopro but I'm looking into setting something up on the shoulder of my line hand (left shoulder). That will need some experimenting in the upcomming season. I had similar issues as you describe with using a chest mount.
  3. For what it's worth, I only fished the bow once with a DH stick since I live on the other side of the pond but I used an Echo Dec Hogan #5 and it seemed to do the trick allright....
  4. Hi, haven't posted here for a while but my Christmas present seemed like a good reason...My wife told me that she would like to leave the Netherlands and move to Canada...Calgary in particular.... Tl, Noud
  5. How about Tiemco 102y? They work fine for me....
  6. Oh it's you again with these fishing reports and pics driving me nuts....Well I'm in Calgary now waiting for Rob and Klaas to arrive so we can pick up the RV and go FISHINNNNNNNNNNNNN. Very nice bull by the way ;-)
  7. I think he means the left hand retrieve on one of your rods....Of which I say TWO of your reels are on your rods backwards...
  8. Thanks for the reminder...I'm taking quite some flies...Wouldn't want to loose them like that. But I understand that they take these precautions. The devastation you could do on a plane with a size 18 parachute adams or worse...A bomber
  9. My bucket list just keeps growing and growing. Tha Gangstah guides are cool too......
  10. Seeing a bow wave arise behind the muddler that you are stripping through the surface...From the until the moment the fish takes seems endless enough to me....Add still my heart stops when the water explodes although I am expecting it to.
  11. Have never fished the Bow yet but what I have experienced goes for all rivers fished by me up until now. I swing streamers on evry type of water. Slow and deep flowing pools, runs, riffles just as long as it has enough current to move your flies. Most of the time I use a clear intermediate (very very slow sinking) polyleader and an unweighted streamer pattern with lots of movement in it. Big softhackles are good as well. As long as the water is less than 5 feet deep fish will often come up all the way to the surface to take your fly. Only when the action is very slow I will start using weighted flies and sink leaders. My friend Ducthdryfly started tossing speyflies for trout and grayling about 2 years ago and they work fine. Gonna try something like this on the Bow in about a week...
  12. Nice fish & pics....The weather doesn't look that bad. If I could choose that weather for the three weeks that I will be fishing overthere next week I would sign off on that, I hardly see any wading jackets in your pics...
  13. You know I love to make you guys feel good. That's what I go fishing with you guys for. On the days I go out alone I catch tons of fish....honestly.... Like Rob said...Although klutz fits better than monkey I think...I even once became runner up as klutz of the year on the BB of flyfisherman.com. I only lost to someone because he broke a limb....
  14. Good one...Hadn't thought about that yet although I'm doing that myself with my rods I'm taking with me to Canada next week.
  15. Orvis has a 7-piece frequent flyer rod in a six weight. I think it should even handle most larger fish well.
  16. I have a realy nice new clear rubber net...Shall I bring it? Or can I leave it at home since I never seem to catch anything....
  17. Ok ok... I can't fish...I know that but at least let me try without you guys harrassing me.
  18. Have been swinging wets on the single hander and streamers on the speyrod for about 2 years now and realy love it. Especially hooking a bigger trout on a streamer on the speyrod is addictive. Feeling that tug and your whole setup stopping in the current and then often the fish launching itself out of the water can be heart stopping. I won't forget my first trout on the swing. Hope to have a couple of these encounters on the bow in a little over a week....
  19. I know it is doable and seeing that you already have some help I think you are in for a good time. My first time with the speyrod I had had only 2 hours of instructions by a friend (Dutchdryfly) and a couple of hours watching videos on speycasting. On the first day of fishing after that I caught 10 fish so you should be allright with the practice you still can get. Last year was my second time flyfishing the speyrod on a large river and I realy had a blast. I still am improving in my casting but getting the hang of it well enough to catch fish is doable with a crash course.
  20. When fishing with the single handed rod I usually have 3 nymph patterns with me in different sizes and 2 dry fly patterns in different sizes and colours next to that I will have 3 flymph/spider/calssic wet fly patterns with me. All fit in to a small flybox. When spey fishing I cary one box with streamers. Most of the time 2 streamers of the same size and pattern and about a dozen different patterns in a couple of sizes. And depending on the type of fish I'm after with the speyrod I might also carry my tubefly box which has a lot of flies of which I have only one in the box in each size and weight. I used to carry a lot of flies with me but I caught myself wasting a lot of time trying to choose the fly to use.
  21. Oh just keep'em comming. It's just that my boss is getting tired of that dreamy look in my eyes..... I'm staying motivated to reassign my work to my colleagues.... Well anyway, it looks like it's going to be a trip of a lifetime for me and I'm looking forward to fishing on the other side of the pond for a change. These places are beautifull....
  22. Nice......I'll be there in about two weeks time.... These posts are not realy good for me at this moment since I start to get a little to eager to fish those places now.
  23. Wow that is adventurous fishing....I can only dream of that.....
  24. I remember the feeling of my first bigger fish...Can't beat that in a lifetime. It's chasing the dragon for you for the rest of your life now....Sorry
  25. Nope, let's see if he can join us on one of our days in the calgary area.
