  1. I totally recommend Jim McLennan. I took a Beginners Course taught by him and am taking his Intermediate Course this July. Failing that, you could talk to any one of the other fine sponsors of this site; Country Pleasures, Fish Tales, Southbow, etc. and inquire as to what they have for courses coming up this spring. Many of them have both group and private lessons available.
  2. That was just awesome! Love it!
  3. I believe you are right. MMAX was right also. It was 88 Olympics. I had it confused with the cup win they keep talking about....
  4. I suppose in reading the report, it didn't indicate that the fish caught was on a barbed hook or not. Just assumed that it was, which could be short sighted of me. That being said, if the fish was caught on a barbed hook, and it wasn't in the circumstances described above, then a fine should be warranted. If the accused is actively fishing with a barbed hook, they should be fined. If, like Trailhead, he was fishing with what appeared to be a barbed hook that wasn't 100% crimped down, but everything else was fine, then a warning. I guess it's a judgement call, based on the circumstance.
  5. I agree. Barbed hooks are illegal. Period. If they don't do the homework to check the regulations for sportfishing, then that's thier loss. Fines are a great way to get the message across. If the guy had a lisence, don't you think he'd know the basic rules of no barbed hooks?
  6. Always makes me laugh when Flames fans call out Edmonton for living in the past. I've never been to a City that lives more in the past than Calgary does. They still have the sign for the '89 Olympics up for cryin out loud. Not to mention, three coaches in three years.......kinda makes you wonder if its the coaches leading them to first round exits, or if the players are just living up to thier mediocrity.
  7. Anyone still looking for a copy of Jim McLennan's Blue Ribbon Bow, I just read an article in the Herald Today about the Calgary Book Drive and Sale at the Crossroads Market (Blackfoot and Ogden Road SE). They mentioned Jim specifically in an article for Father's Day gift ideas, and mentioned they have a copy of Blue Ribbon Bow there. Thought some of you might like to know. They might have cake too. Ya never know...
  8. Fair, but I'll still stick to my "wait and see" before I make the call on this one. Sounds good on paper, but let's see how the team responds before I start planning the Parade Route.
  9. LOL That's a gooder.
  10. Happy Birthday Chris. Go catch a big brown!
  11. I also use side pressure. When I was learning, they said that side pressure controls the head of the fish. Control the head, control the fish. Pulling the rod straight up, the fish can still drive side to side with little resistance, whereas you pull sideways, the fish has a harder time driving away from you, and if he turns into your pull, just pull to the other side. The Gospel according to Jim McLennan.
  12. And that is exactly why Renney was also hired as the Associate Coach. To make up for what Quinn lacks.
  13. South Fish Creek park in Sicome Lake. Take Bow Bottom Road off of Deerfoot south and keep going. Burnsmead, Bankside and the Boat Launch (all in Sicome Lake) are all good access points to the south bow. If you are looking at south of the city, Policeman's Flats is the most common.
  14. Nice!! Good job!!!
  15. On a Tuesday? Working.
  16. http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/World/2009/05/31/9632206-ap.html Seriously....WTF?
  17. Taco, correct me if I'm wrong......but Stupidest F***ing Thread Ever No?
  18. Like you, I have the Equinox. I just put my camera and my phone in the pocket on the upper left. On the shoulder strap. Fits fine. Unless of course you have a big DSLR or somehting, with a bunch of lenses and stuff. Then it wouldn't work at all. lol
  19. If you are looking for some thing a little less traditional, and would be looking for something functional, I would maybe suggest a chest pack. I use the William Joseph Equinox and I LOVE it. I was in the same boat you currently are last summer and was trying to figure out what to do. I just ended up not liking the idea of a vest. They just seemed too bulky and I couldn't find a design that I actually liked. Try some different options. Everyone has some different opinions of it, that can be found here..... http://flyfishcalgary.com/board/index.php?...p;hl=chest+pack Some other sites to check http://www.williamjoseph.net http://www.fishpondusa.com/ http://www.sierratradingpost.com/p/,1505F_...Sling-Pack.html Just my opinion of course.
  20. That last shot is just awesome. I could totally see my daughter being right into that.
  21. Whatever happens to be on Fuel 90.3 Best radio station.....ever.
  22. Well the Oilers have thier new Coach(es). Pat Quinn was hired on as Head Coach and Tom Renney as the Associate Coach. Kelly Buchberger stays on as Assistant Coach as well. Sounds like Tom and Pat both have three year contracts with a verbal agreement that Renney would step in as Head Coach at the end of the contract if Quinn decides to retire. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=279979 Not 100% sure how I feel about this just yet. Both are proven coaches, successful with thier former teams and both have a history of coaching the kids. Sounds good on paper, but I'll wait until the season starts before I make a decision on it.
