Curse You, B String!
chiasson replied to firefrog's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
Sounds like fret buzz, the fix could be as simple as hydrating your guitar or a truss rod adjustment (loosen it a quarter turn). If this don't help it's needs a pro setup, the strings are probably too low and require a saddle work. -
Bhurt, Thanks. This was suggested to me when I first started and was having trouble with tangles, but I never did tried it. I somehow got the knack of casting, if you can call it that, multiple nymph rigs and forgot about it. What swivels do you use? I'll definitely give this a try. C.

Curse You, B String!

What do you mean by sour/wolf notes? Is this an acoustic guitar? -
BigBowTrout, I got the identical thing but the jetta version, 8 years old and going strong. Mine usually goes 820 before the light comes on. Can I ask what you got for a roof rack and how you like it? C

Curse You, B String!
chiasson replied to firefrog's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
The B string is known for that, especially on improperly made compensated saddles. If it's the nut try coating the slot with graphite from a sharp pencil. This will reduce friction in the slot and stop tuning and bending related bust offs. Do that with all your unwound strings on acoustic guitars. If this don't help take it to a pro, it's likely a problem with string angle requiring the nut to be slightly altered. If it's the saddle, it will need to be altered, probably best to take it to a pro. A fix like this, barring the need to a new nut and or saddle with a setup ($100+), is likely a few minutes work for someone who knows what they're doing. Could also be a playing technique thing. I screwed up so many guitars trying to make them play the way I wanted when I was young. It took me professional instruction, and professional tools, for it all to click. C. -

New tyer here. I've been playing around trying to get my nymphs as heavy as possible without being too bulky. The ones I'm liking are averaging between .20 and .25 grams, which seems to be a tad heavier than their store bought counterparts. I'd love to get most of the weight I need into the flies and forgoe the splits. Is this even possible? I'm thinking about trying some of those tungsten beads. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks., C.

I have the Atlas, nearly the same thing as the Apex, and have the same complaint, it doesn't come with an extension arm (bobbin cradle). Otherwise, I think it's great vise for the money. Which arm did you get and where in town can I pick one up? Reviews for both are here: http://www.flyfishohio.com/Vise%20Review%2...l_apex_vise.htm

Vest, Chest, Hip, Back-packs?

I've been looking at the Equinox as well. Right now I'm using a WIlly J pack and it's great; however, I don't like fishing with it on. I'd like to get into something that I can wear on short trips that is comfortable to wear and isn't too bulky, i.e, doesn't get in the way when fishing. I think the Equinox may fit the bill. -

Thanks to everyone who replied to my thread a few weeks back when I was shopping around for a suit. I ended up with a nearly perfectly fitting suit from Graftons; I just need to find someone now for some minor alterations, i.e. for hemming and shortening of my shirt sleeves, tighten the wrist cuffs. I could go back to where I bought the suit but I was wondering if anyone knew of an experienced taylor who I could go see in person and who could optimally fit my suit for me? Thanks in advance. C.

I just bought this guy as my first vise, seems solid and has good reviews. It was a $155 CAN. I'm excited to get tying. http://anvilusa.com/The_Atlas_Vise.htm

Just wanted to pass along a negative experience I had with Change Auto down near Chinook Mall. He claims to be the cheapest inspection guy in the city but he's a crook. Myself, as well as a friend, have caught him red handed trying to rip us off. He'll tell you that you have all these problems and want a huge chunk of cash, he did it to both of us. It didn't feel right so we went elsewhere and were passed with having to deal with considerably less issues.

Most Flies Lost On The Bow In One Outing?
chiasson replied to chiasson's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
I started this thread outta curiosity b/c I lost about 10 in 5 hours the other day (personal record). I can't say I've ever lost an indicator, usually it's the tippit (4X) that breaks for me. To those who mentioned loosing indys, are you fishing light non-tapered leaders? -
