Cochrane Dog Groomers
dekkard2019 replied to Din's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
The people down at Pet Planet are pretty good. They have a groomer that comes in from time to time. They are right by Starbucks. -
Wicked Drew!!! Man, those steelhead are an awesome looking fish!

Srd To Close Stauffer Creek
dekkard2019 replied to DonAndersen's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
What is the problem here? I am confused. We miss out on fishing for 2 weeks so brown trout and whitefish can spawn. Seems fair to me. I fish the Lil Red a lot and if it is closed 2 weeks earlier, so be it. The fish are number one!! -
Well, wait to see what SA says. If they can't do anything for you just cut the line before the torn loop and attach your leader with a nail knot. Easy.

Truly epic!!

I recently got my issue of Fly Fusion in the mail and noticed there is a large segment discussing the Skeena, Nass, and Stikine rivers. Also known as the Sacred Headwaters and have been declared the most endangered rivers by the province of B.C. The problem, as Yvon Chouinard states is, "...it is the very spot that the B.C. government has given Royal Dutch Shell license to drill thousands of gas wells to extract coalbed methane." I couldn't believe what I read in the magazine and I personally wrote a letter to the provincial government that took me maybe 5 minutes of my time. You guys can do whatever you like, but I suggest you pick up a copy of Fly Fusion to read more about the problem. April Vokey left an address that you can write to so your voice will be heard: The Honourable Christy Clark, Premier of British Columbia, box 9041, Station PROV GOVT, Victoria B.C. She also mentions a fax number too (250) 387-0087

That is a great story! The mistake of "leaving fish to find fish". Who cares? That is all part of the adventure...you never know what you may find. That is fishing.

High Alpine Lake Flies For This Time Of Year
dekkard2019 replied to ratonb's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
I find it is always changing. The chronnies are a good bet. But I make sure I have gold ribbed hares ears, flashback phesant tails, and also a good assortment of dries like adams, griffith's gnats, and traveling sedges. Make sure they are in smaller sizes too. Bottonline: bring a good selection because you never know what to expect at high elevation. -
Good on ya! Look at that bull. It's got a face only a mother could love.

Don't do it. The fish finder is actually located in your cranium.

I know. WTF over. I wanted to fish Wedge Pond for a couple grayling and that is 95% solid.

Made it up to Kananaskis Lakes today and there is still a lot of ice on them. I was able to find some open water and had a few fish on. Nothing too crazy but who cares when you are surrounded by mountains, rivers, and streams. I just want to thank the people who have helped with the regulation change proposal. It has been well received and we will know by the end of this year if it passes or not. Hopefully we will see the 1 trout over 50cm for rainbows and cutthroats by next year. This cutty pulled a chironomid deep into the abyss and put up a scrappy fight.

Upper Bow -put-ins/ Take Outs
dekkard2019 replied to GregoryV's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
Yep. You could. There is a giant, deep, deep, hole behind the gas plant. I practice my spey casts there. Take the turn off from the 1A at the war memorial. Follow that gravel road to the Bow River regs sign and walk down through the field. Also, the run up above the river avenue bridge in Cochrane is perfect spey water. Who knows? Maybe you will hit one of those big bulls in there. -
Bend to eye. But most of the time I fish just one chronic. Have you ever fished a chronnie that has a tungsten head? Gets down in a hurry and works well.
-
...I have mostly fished 10 foot rods so I am kind of biased...but I originally got one for lake fishing and the wind...turns out they are great on the Bow and they roll cast really nice too...I have had 2 10' 6wt...love 'em.

In A Big World Some Things Matter More
dekkard2019 replied to DonAndersen's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
I live close to Cochrane and I am in town everyday. You should see the bridge on River Avenue. Crazy. I used to go down and have lunch under the hwy 22 bridge...not anymore the whole parking lot is coverd in ice. The walking paths are all shut down because it is too dangerous. It will be interesting to see when everything melts if there are any dead fishes on the shore. Things are warming up too and you can actually see flow now. Griffin's Bend is also a mess. -
Frikkin' wicked post! I always read of the Henry's Fork in Gierach novels...
