You are entitled to your opinion. I honestly don't think it will ever be shoulder to shoulder out there. It can be a tough place to fish sometimes, especially for guys fishing from boats and trolling. I have seen a lot of guys get snuffed out there and they never come back. The 2 lakes are so big there are TONS of places to fish. I can bounce between both lakes all day long. There are great places to hike too...cripes you can fish up at Rawson come back down and fish the K lakes. You can actually fish 3 lakes in a day if you wanted to. Don't get so down on overcrowding...we should be encouraging people to get out and enjoy the mountains. Learn to relax.

The problem with the bug situation in both lakes is caused by the fluctuating water levels. This may change in the year 2013. I hope so. It is unreal the water level in the month of May compared to the end of November. The rainbows were last stocked in the lower lake in 1988. When we shocked Boulton we had 66 adult rainbows, so the the rainbow population is very low and we hope with the new regs on Boulton that this will change things around. Time will tell. It is pretty cool that these stocked fish have adapted and are reproducing. I have caught 14" rainbows in the lower. As far as I know, nothing is reproducing in the upper lake, except for suckers. They will both be in both lakes for a very long time. There was also talk at the roundtable meeting about modifying one of the creeks that flow into the upper to accomodate spawning cutthroat.

Maybe. The first petition we did was taken seriously enough to be mentioned by SRD regarding a proposed regulation change during the roundtable meeting at Bass Pro on DEC 15th. We can make a difference. And I am sure it will get mentioned at the next one too. You can only make reg change every 2 years. We just need to get involvement and show that we want something done.

Ya got some real cool pictures there! I like the "fish on" picture. Ah, yes, the Bow River Bones are feeding hard right now. Gotta love 'em.

I agree with Gaffer. I got the SIMMS G3 Guide pant and they are wicked. You can't beat the MADE IN USA . If ya got the cash, go with it. I got mine down at Westwinds. Gordie knows his stuff! I am sure that Dan Bailey makes a pretty good pant that are more lighter than the G3 but not nearly as durable.

Bad Movie Alert! - Do Not Go See Skyline!!

Thanks for the tip! I wanted to see that movie. I really like science fiction movies. The last good one I saw was Predators. Nothing worse than paying a ton o' money on a show and it licks. -

Hey Bitgtoad...good idea on the signage. It was just Guy and me working away for two and a half weeks. Yep. We were swinging pick axes. Like for hours in a day into hard rock. Sometimes I was wondering what the heck I was doing, but the project was well worth the effort. We didn't have any heavy equipment and no tools were plugged in. Anyways, the fish are happy in their new spot, and that is all that matters. -

Thanks a lot! It was a cool project to work on. This is a nursery stream, so I would appreciate it if you kept lines out of the water. So would the brookies. Peace. -
HOLY frikkin' snotballs did I ever see a big brown today. Like total mutant. I went in to Calgary today to get some things done and decided to take my pup for a walk and take a look at the spawning browns. I know a good viewing spot right in the city. I have seen guys holding big browns out of the Bow but when you see something massive up close and personal it is different. This fish was a solid 30"...if it taped out at 31 or 32" it wouldn't surprise me. And FAT...holy. I am still a lil shaky. I just thought I would share that. It was so cool. I hope you guys are having a good time fishing that special piece of water before it closes on the 31st!! If you are fishing the Bow make sure you watch your step. There are redds everywhere. Here's to a good year of winter fishing on the Bow and Crow and wherever else!!!!!!

The People You Meet
dekkard2019 replied to dekkard2019's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
I heard New Zealand is awesome for the brown trout. Yep, they were interesting people...they had the time and the money to do this trip. It must be pretty cool to fish stuff all over North and South America...NZ...Europe...on and on...all in one year. -
I fished the Highwood with my buddy Ayr yesterday and we had a great day of fishing. At the end of the day we bumped into a couple in the parking lot that were probably in their mid fifties. They were just rigging up to fish the last 2 hours of daylight. We got chatting with them and it turns out that they are from Australia. I thought, wow, that is a ways to come to chase trout. Actually they have been all over the world. They both have taken a year away from their business to just fly fish around the world. I couldn't believe it. What a trip! They weren't the kind that would stay in a lodge for a week either. Just fly to some place and rent a car and give 'er. It seemed they wouldn't stay longer than 2 or 3 days on any particular river and they were off to some place new. They mentioned that they were at the tail end of their trip...fishing the Highwood...then maybe fishing the Bow today(we told them to get a guide through Fish Tales...I don't know if that would materialize on such short notice)...then off to the Elk River and then down through to the Yellowstone and back up to BC. Ayr and I asked them what their favorite trip was and it was some obscure place for bonefishing. I think it was close to Cuba. They said there was plenty of bones caught with exceptional sizes. Wow! They also mentioned how awesome Argentina was. Lots of great rivers. They also mentioned how great it is here. Sometimes I think how spoiled we are sometimes and just don't know it. They drove from Jasper to Lake Loiuse and said it was the nicest drive they had expereinced yet. Cool. I had to think too...how much would a trip like this cost? Obviously, you have to have a few bucks. Being a millionaire sure helps. $150, 000? $200,000? More? Less? Me? I think I will be stuck in good old Alberta for awhile chasing trout right here! And maybe BC...

Line Recommendation Needed

The RIO Gold. If you have a 6wt rod...I suggest just sticking with the 6wt line. Don't overline. Also, if you want to fish streamers, just buy a sink tip you can attach. Everything is loop to loop. Easy! I like the type 6 sink for the Bow. -
Dogs Vs Fishermen And Vice Versa
dekkard2019 replied to LynnF's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
The guy who swore at you is an obvious dikkhead. I fish the Dogpark all the time and I simply go where the dogs aren't. Go upstream...downstream...cross the pedestrian bridge and fish the other side. With knobs like that just ignore them is the best thing. -
...patience dude patience.

Happy Birthday ADC!!! Hope you are gettin' into a lot of fish! -
...couple of my favorites..."Raising the Ghost" and my #1 pick is "Hustle and Fish". It is really funny and the fishing is awesome! Leopard rainbows in Alaska!! The only knock you can give the show is that they fish with eggs a lot.
-
...good idea there frypan...undercover...you could roll up to some lake or river in your old white Econoline van packed with gear too.
-
Hey Tightline I was thinking the same thing totally. Get some guys that are spending 200 plus days on the water fishing and watch what happens. You could get "deputized" or "knighted" somehow. We could be the green berets of fish law enforcement. I know the idea sounds half-cooked, but I think it would be awesome. "Hey boys...what ya got there? Looks like a pickeral rig with powerbait!" BAM! Ya got 'em!

...I have a TFO Lefty Kreh signature series 10' 6wt 4pc. and I fish it on the K lakes and the Bow and I think it is a great rod...I just beat the crap out of it and it keeps going...I think I have only sent it in 3 times in the past 2 years...once because the tip snapped in -20 something weather and a couple times because of the guides...but honestly it is a very reliable rod.
