  1. I too, am looking to get something with oars--- as my 'aging' legs don't handle the wind and longer outings in my float tube. I am still trying to wrap my head around the 'frame vs frameless'. Have been looking at the huge variety of Outcast and Scadden Series as well as others. I would appreciate reviews from anyone who has experienced the different models-- such as two separated pontoons with frame; frameless scadden renegade/escape style, and the Outlaw Assault style. I have read reviews of each, however I have not been able to find reviews of the various styles by any one person. If you have experience with mopre than one style, would you please comment. Thanks PS I would use approximately 70% still water and 30% river-- the two cooler (Don) kind!
  2. Congrats on your ???? Anniversary, Don! Sounds like you and Sandy celebrated in fine fashion. Thanks for the post-- may have to give it a whirl! Aaron and I missed you today at Beaver. Had a beautiful morning with a good number of smallish ones, but had to hunker down under some lakeshore cover to escape lightning, thunder, rain and hail! PM fishing was abbreviated!
  3. My son and I just returned from a wonderful 4 day fishing trip that included a float tube day chasing the Gerard Trout on White Swan, a walk and wade on the Elk, a drift on the Elk, and a short day exploring the Crowsnest. We built our trip around the Streamwatch float trip donated by board member 'Dune'. This float proved to be the highlight of our birthday gift to each other! Dune and his loyal dog, Skowa, proved to be perfect hosts for our trip, the weather and scenery were spectacular, and we managed to have some fun with the famous Elk cutthoat and a couple of larger whitefish. Sighting a grizzly along the road was an added bonus. Although the Crow's Rainbow were not to Bow standards, sight fishing them with drys proved to be a ton of fun! Thanks to 'Dune' for providing a dad and his son with a 'net full' of stories, memories, and the basis for just a few more lies! (Note:After witnessing the amount of rowing required over the 11 hours on a winding river with sweepers, some very thin water, and dangerous rocks to avoid, we gained a huge appreciation of our oarsman's skill and strength-- all without a word of complaint!) This could become a habit!!!
  4. Andy's Mechanical in NE-- between Edmonton Trail and Deerfoot-- across from Forzani's Office building. I have been a customer for years.
  5. Thank you Ruff and Robert! That puts it to rest. I think I had better inform the young lady at BassPro so she does not mislead others. Now I can splurge on a couple more flies!
  6. I was told by a cashier at BassPro that since I am now 65 years of age I do not require a license but I will need a current WIN Card and I must carry it with me. Since I am a newbie to the 'senior rank', I am looking for info regarding this matter. I will continue to look through the regulations, but so far, I have not found anything other than 'No License required'. Please assist an 'Older Fellow'. Thanks.
  7. You might want to consider Lorette Pond in Kananskis once it gets stocked. I know others that take their youngsters there to get a 'fishing experience'. It isn't river fishing but can get a young boy 'hooked' on fishing.
  8. Why not a float tube on a small dolly????
  9. Not a bad idea. I have already requested parts from the Reel Doctor in Edmonton. I'll try that route first and maybe go your suggested route if that doesn't work out. Thanks.
  10. I tried Ritchie's a few days ago. He does not repair or carry parts for the OKUMA. I believe that he mentioned that he had purchased Roggies supplies when Roggie retired. Those were part of my dead ends. Thanks anyway to both Flytyer and mnm.
  11. I need to repair my OKUMA SLV 56 reel. The very tiny 'CLICK PAWL ASSY.' is broken (Part #33040025)--- affecting the drag. I checked the OKUMA website for reel repair. It lists Mike's Reel Repair in Abbottsford, BC as a warranty repair shop. Four phone calls and messages have gone unanswered at this time. Does anyone know of a Calgary based company or individual who may be able to either repair the reel or provide me with parts. Any help would be appreciated. I have had a couple of leads but all ended in dead ends at this point. Thanks in advance.
  12. To all who responded with suggestions and other resources--- Thank You! I have some homework to do.This has been my first post and I appreciate the interest and help. Putting a rod together just might fill in some of the winter evenings! Jerry
  13. Thanks for the 'heads up' on the rod building course and link. Unfortunately I will be away for 3 months and miss those sessions. Fish Tales would be a good place to start in any event. Thanks Flytyer.
  14. I am contemplating building a 4wt. rod (never tackled this before) and am looking for suggestions/advice regarding such items as: manufacturer, supplier, 2pce.vs 4 pce, price to expect for a mid-range model, and any other tips, pitfalls, etc. to consider before taking the plunge. And -- Oh yes-- is this a task that a novice can take on without much guidance? I am not the 'handiest' person around. Thanks in advance for ALL suggestions. JerryN
