  1. Check with Online Sport and Tackle in Jasper, I think they rent freighters at the lake. Worth checking with Maligne Tours as well.
  2. Yep, I think its about 10 bucks per round. Can't remember how many clays that gets you as its been a while for me. You'll need to bring target loads though, they are pretty strict about what you're shooting with there. Trying to keep the peace with the neighbors.
  3. Just curious, what rod are you using with your little guys? My daughter keeps asking me to take her out but I don't have any kid friendly gear. was thinking about picking up a little 3wt or something that she can use.
  4. if you're around on the weekend at all, I live right there as well and would be happy to take you out to a few spots.
  5. A few thoughts. I spent 16 years climbing and biking in Jasper and Banff, ran into a few bears, had to change my shorts once. Pulled my bear spray once but didn't use it. As far as carrying a firearm goes, in every bear encounter I've ever had that could have gone bad, there wasn't time to unsling a shotgun, jack a round into the chamber, aim it, and hope to get an accurate shot off. Can't even imagine carrying it while fishing. Probably would have served better as a crutch in the case of a mauling. As for sharing a river or stream with a bear, let them have it. There's plenty enough holes on every river or creek to move on to something else. As to singing or shouting loudly while in bear country, why does it seem like I'm the only one doing it? I've gotten some strange looks out there when I run into other people. And I've never heard anyone else!!!
  6. I work in the bike industry and we have been competing against mail order and "grey market" product for years. We're still here. We've just had to ramp up our service to customers to keep them coming thru the door. I don't think the local dealers have too much to worry about. I can't see a brand like Simms devaluing their product. As a consumer who used to live in a small town, the ability to buy direct only increases my options. When you need gear and your only option is to buy whats available locally (which may be nothing or overpriced) or drive 5 hours and hope that you can find what you want, manufacturer direct sales are a godsend.
  7. I seem to recall reading something about bear spray gelling or slushing up in the can. So apparently, the cold does affect it. Not sure if that actually affects the potency of the spray once its thawed.
  8. I'm thinking pretty hard about getting Simms. Just can't afford the custom fit options at the moment which is why I'm trying to repair the ones I have. Will definately try the Aqua Seal. I was looking at some stuff for doing tent floors. I think that may do the trick. Thanks for the advice. Al
  9. No warranty left on them unfortunately. And, I'm pretty sure the damage was caused by me leaving them in the ski box on top of the truck for a few days when we were down in Montana. It can get pretty warm up there. I doubt they would be covered even if they were still under the warranty period.
  10. Managed to get out on the river for a couple of days over the weekend. Fishing was good but unfortunately, i discovered that my waders have delaminated on the inside of the legs. When I turn the waders inside out, the intact membrane has separated from the nylon shell in a few places. I have been looking for a new pair of waders and will probably pick some up in the spring but I was hoping to keep these ones going for the next couple of months. Can I fix the delam and restore the waterproofing? I don't need these to breath but they need to keep the water out.
  11. Soooo, where abouts do you live? Care to google map that one for us
  12. After witnessing some of the antics out at the Homestead Public Range this summer, and knowing that some of those people will be out in the bush looking for something fill their freezer, I will be thinking twice about some of the trails that I mountain bike on and use to access water that I like to fish, with or without high vis clothing.. There's quite a few idiots out there and I do not want to become a statistic.
  13. Hate to play devil's advocate here but giving a guy a fine for doing something he probably had no clue was illegal isn't going to have too much of an impact. People hear about the fine, get pissed off one way or the other and then forget what the issue really was. Education is the key. Enforcement should be the last resort. In the past two years I have seen a grand total of 2 conservation officers out there talking to people. Theres no way people are going to clue in unless theres more boots on the ground talking to them. Same principle of community policing. Get out there, be visable, talk to people, enforce when you have too.
  14. Oh, so that area that everyone walks down to gain access to the north side of the river by policemans? Why the hell would people cut fences there? Never ceases to amaze me the ignorance of some of the clowns out there.
  15. Sorry to sound like an idiot here but where is the extendor bridge?
