  1. No. And we did expect to see some, or at least sign. One of the days we were on a section with lots and lots of kokanee's spawning and dying. Saw an eagle, but no bears. Did see some cougar tacks though.
  2. There has been a lot of talk recently about the metamorphosis of this board, I hope this helps people to remember why we like it around here. I spent the weekend with troutlover and another buddy fishing based from my condo in BC (which is still for rent by the way, 3 weeks left in the season!-end of advertisement). We focussed on cuttie streams in the area. The fishing was outstanding. We got between 20 and 25 per day, with the first day being the best. Biggest cuttie was in the 17" class. Most all of them were caught on dry flies. I don't have the pictures from day 1 yet as the guide we used on day 1 is sending them, along with an amazing movie he made of the trip. By the way, we fished with Bruce from Kootenay Troutfitters. It would be difficult for me to recommend him more. Just a great guy to fish with! And he certainly came through in giving us options for the next two days. Anyway, most of the following shots are of scenery. We did not take that many fish pictures on days 2 and 3. Mostly focussed on just enjoying where we were. There will be plenty of fish porn when I get the pictures and video from Bruce. Hope everyone enjoys! I've made a lot of fishing trips in my life. This was certainly one of the best!
  3. First off, KnottyGirl has the best name EVER. Couldn't resist tampering with her post a bit! Maybe a bit out of context, but we take what we can get...... As for music: Satellite radio, so I just let it run when I'm not listening to ESPN. Totally a sports junkie.
  4. I've been trying to forget those trips! Sorry Ed. That's why I hesitated to name any names. I knew I would forget someone. I sincerely apologize. Buy me a beer and I'll forget I offended you.
  5. What is funny about that is... I am a bait fisherman. Use bait when I'm at home. In the height of the summer, they get tough to catch on any non-natural bait. I'm a fish ho, remember? On that note, we still need to get out so you can show me some small water cutties. I can now return the favor in BC!!
  6. I know. I assume my sarcasm always shines through. Maybe I should start using those stupid emoticon things. Summers are WAY better here. As is the fishing. I actually worked on an Oyster boat for a couple of winters. Money was OK, but I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I hate everything about them, including eating them. Hijack over.
  7. Smitty, You are a @#$@#$@# LoyalEddie, You too are a @#%#% as well. Don't know why I said that. I sincerely apologize. Can I get a beer too now?
  8. Did you have to bring my heritage into it?
  9. Brett, Don't quit. Glenbow, Come back. (I could add dozens of names here as well. Look, these boards always go through this period. When it is small, we don't flame each other because we know each other, either through the board or in person. This board was way more fun when there was all the interplay between you guys, bobloblaw, weedy, esleech, SJW, taco, (change back to the original name buddy), lynnf, ladystrange, toolman, etc., etc. All that is mostly gone because they too often turn into bitch fests. I play a part in that as well as I can't seem to keep my mouth shut when I read someone who I think is being elitist, or narrow minded, or whatever. In reality, it probably isn't my place to point what I feel are their mistaken views. They are their views, not mine, and what does it truly matter if they are different than mine? That said, it can be fun-but in the end probably counter productive. Anyway, though there will always be those who see the negative in everything, or at least feel the need to point out the negative, don't let it make you stop participating. Think of all the people you both have met and fished with because of this place. That truly trumps everything. I'm thinking of making a list of everyone I've fished with off this board, and those I want but haven't managed to do so yet. I fished this weekend with troutlover and a friend from work. I met Jared through the board. I've done 2 big trips with him, and countless short trips. Wouldn't trade that for anything. I've made 3 big trips with you Brett that were nothing short of fantastic (though 1 was very cold) and the day I spent with you Glenn (and kungfool and rocknbugs) I'll remember forever. I've learned how to fish from you guys, and toolman and maxwell (and troutslayer, and rocknbugs, and bigbadbrent, and bobloblaw, and countless others I can't think of right now) in person and a whole host of others by what they have posted on line. All because of this little website. Don't quit. The terrorists win if you quit!
  10. Just got the word when I was on my way to my BC fishing trip. Mom's house is good, with a ton of crap to clean up. None of it her's. There is part of a roof on her yard! Anyway, thanks to all for their concern!
  11. Brett, Please don't post any of my PMs. I don't want anyone to know what I'm really like. I agree with Brad. Do it however you want. A few folks will complain however you put it together. Don't worry about it (easy for me to say!)
  12. As I "welcome" comments from those with a narrow perspective.
  13. That'll catch some fish! You could even add more legs. I've experimented with some "stones" a friend ties and we've found that it doesn't look like you can have too many legs! I don't know the names of any tying material, but the legs on the ones I've been using were solid brown and not rubber. Like floss, only stiffer? Anyway, the idea is the same as yours. "Impressionism" at its best!
  14. No one still has been able to get to mom's house. My brother tried to go when he heard they had opened it up, but when he got their they wouldn't let him in becuase he wasn't a resident. We did hear from a neighbor that she lost a wall on the ground floor (below the level of the stilts, so non-structural). And there will be a BIG mess to clean up at a minimum. May be an unscheduled trip to the tropics for me for a bit of sweat equity! Galveston Damage I found the above on a fishing web site in Texas. It is a long series of shots taken on I-45 going into Galveston, to the beach, down to the west end of the Island and back to the seawall. The houses on stilts are just like my mom's. For those of you who make it through (it is very long), think about the sheer volume of stuff that has to be cleaned up. Staggering. Also, look at the boats. Any boat that was on the road was bulldozed off. Some of these boats are well into the 6 figures. Many of the shots taken into the water are where big fishing piers used to be. No longer!

    Double dang!
  16. Best line in this whole thread. I would also consider some streamers to be in the grey area as well. There are better ways to present big, heavy streamers than a fly rod! But the fly rod is funner! And I'm with SJW. I like to consider myself a fisherman, period. Why should I lock myself into a single technique and limit the amount of fun I can have? This attitude can apply to many different situations.
  17. Hey, hey!! I'm almost always mostly wrong! Its a great day. Thanks for the info firefrog.
  18. No. But some of your other habits might. Actually, it may classify you as a fisherman who happens to use a fly rod as opposed to a fly fisherman. I find some (but certainly not all) who consider themselves a member of the latter tedious.
  19. Mt kidd in Kananaskis? There are some nice hike in lakes with willing fish.
  20. What the hell, this is fun. First, I'd be a bit careful with bhurt. He was my sons football coach and I would classify him as someone you want with you in the proverbial dark alley. Not a fella I'd want on my bad side. Just some friendly advice. Second, if dad appropriated or paraphrased Bill, then I guess you'd have to apologize to Bill. Third, if imitation is the greatest form of flattery, what is satirical imitation? And finally, I did ask for useful iformation. Your "advice" was redundant (sort of a theme) and of very dubious use.
  21. Happy Birthday Lynn!!
  22. Aren't the water treatment plants, with the nutrients they introduce and corresponding massive insect hatches the primary reason the Bow in Calgary fishes so well? You don't see the numbers or size of fish north of Calgary.
  23. Subtle. Sorta like a hammer is subtle. Twice on my tag line? You have some creativity (though you tend to lapse into redundancy), and it looks like a little wit. Unfortunately you have chosen to use your meager skills for evil instead of good. I did look at your posts. Think you may post a fishing post or maybe some useful information anytime soon? Anyway, like Headscan, I'll quit feeding the troll as well. Sorry for being so easily chummed up. Guess I was caught with one fly as well, even one very sloppily presented.
