Life As It Used To Be
reevesr1 replied to albannachxcuileag's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
When I was a kid, we used to have bb gun wars. I think we allowed 2 pumps, no shooting above the waist. Until we stole enough grinding masks from my dad. Then it was full out conflict, shoot 'em anywhere. Good times. On the negative side, my friend accidentally shot his little brother in the eye with a pellet gun. Lost the eye. Though it was not during a bb gun war, they were effectively ended on that day. -

Agreed. But I really like plain old New York style cheesecake. Not that baked puffed up kind. Clive, can Elbonian's make cheesecake? Like the real cream cheese kind, not those fake baked ones. -

I also forgot the sidebar about respect (or lack thereof) for the Bodankians. Like Post 25: BTW you might want to be careful, there is some pretty heavy crime rates in the capital city of Booshamel. Post 26: You racist! I lived in Booshamel for two years in a gated, defended community. They Bodankians are quiet, unassuming people. Or at least they seemed that way clamoring behind the concertina wire fences of my compound. We were just a safe as downtown Calgary. Ok, maybe safer than downtown Calgary. About as safe as say Chaparral. -
Post 1: I am planning a trip to South Bodanky to fish for parrotfish. Does anyone have any recommendations? Post 2: You are in for a treat! These solitary stalkers of grass flats require stealth and a delicate presentation. Their rock hard beaks of a mouth make setting the hook difficult, so heavy tippet is a must. Heavy enough to be able to drive the hook home, but no so heavy to spook the fish. -1X flouro would be my choice. But when you do hook up, hang on. Pound for pound the parrot fish rivals the bonefish in shear speed and power. Good Luck! Post 3: I've fished in Bodanky as well. Man, it sure gets hot. I scorched my feet. You may want to think of wading boots to go with the normal sun wear required in the topics. Post 4: Last year I fished in Balimypan, just to the east of South Bodanky. Hotter than a )*@$)@*$(). I used the new Simms G-14 X-71 deck boots. These top of the line kevlar breathable boots are specially coated with the oil from the pituitary gland of a Llama. Not the Alpaca oil, but Llama oil. This increases the sun stopping capacity to SPF 1000, while keeping the foot cooler and have a double lifetime warranty. Llama's are not harmed when the oil is extracted, so they are environmentally safe and animal friendly. Really, at $499.00 they are a steal. Post 5: "quote post 4". Haven't you heard of the stress that extracting the oil puts on the llamas? You loser. Really, the only boots enviornmentally and animal aware people can buy in good conciousness are the Patagonia Z231 Super dries. Patatonia has figured out a way to extract the chemical from common plastic that makes it non-biodegardable and weave this chemical, flourotetrahydrohexine, into their high impact kelvar breathable boots. Same SPF as the Simms, but all the plastic used in the creation of these boots is now biodegadeable. So its a win/win! The $999.99 price tag is a small price to pay, especially when you consider the triple infinity warranty. Really, everyone should have a pair! Help save the environment! Post 5: (Post 4 Guy to post 5 guy) Hey, you suck. Post 6: (Post 5 guy to post 4 guy) You double suckity suck. Post 7 (poster well known for his stance on environmental issues) I just read an article which found that the gasses released from the now biodegradeable plastic that Patagonia uses in their boots is worse than man made CO2 emissions and will greatly accelerate the already out of control global warming, which is of course totally man made Post 8: Quote post 7 Your not starting that crap again are you? Are you an idiot? Global warming is not man made (and on and on) 3 pages on GW now. Somewhere in here I will post something about how I'm from Texas and I know everything. I'll probably have 2 or 3 that say that in different ways. Maybe I'll work in a shark picture if I can figure out a way to do it. Also, there will be a short sidebar where several of us post links to 80s videos from hair bands and arcane new wave acts. Someone will post with the eating popcorn emoticon. Post 65: Same guy as post 1: Uh, thanks guys, I guess. On the whole boot thing, I'm not sure what side of the issue I land on, but can't I just go to Walmart and buy some socks? Post 66: Walmart!! Let me tell you something about Walmart, you little pissant......... 3 pages on Walmart follow Post 97: Thread locked. Sound familiar?

Holy cow! I didn't know that people could take differences of opinions on gloves or boots so personally. Conor, Early November can surprise you. While it ain't August, it can still get pretty darn hot between the fronts. The advise here has been sound, and sometimes passionately defended. I don't think you need to go Michael Jackson, but it wouldn't be a mistake to err on the safe side.

Mostly merc's myself. I must confess I did have an Evinrude 30 on the back of my last jon boat in Texas. I swear all you had to do was look at it and it would start. Nice little engine. Hijack over, I promise.
-
I'd be a bit embarrased to run around with an Evinrude on the back of my boat! But if it takes Evinrude's and egg flies to catch big ass steelhead on a fly rod, can someone direct me to the Evinrude and egg store? And could someone please pay me to go? I'd go for free, but hell, cash is better! Edit: Not trying to poke anyone here, just trying, probably in vain, to inject a bit of humor. Don't know anything about steelhead or fishing with egg flies. Sure looked fun though!

Every time I see a picture of someone on long sleeves, hat, zinc oxide on the nose, SPF 1,000,000 I wonder why I'm not dead. Shorts, no shirt (at least when I was younger) and coconut oil! Might as well get a tan while you are fishing, the girls seem to like it. Seriously, while I almost never wear long sleeves, I would certainly recommend it. Nothing will ruin your trip faster than a good sunburn. The feet are another, as stated above. The worst two sunburns I've ever had were on my feet and on the top of my bald head (stupidity in both cases). If the burn is bad enough, you will not want to fish. It is miserable. So cover up. You'll look like a geek, and women will laugh at you, but you'll get to keep fishing!

I Got My Teeth Knocked Out By A Chainsaw...

I like the guy in back trying to cover her face! Don't worry, not really many like her around, contrary to popular opinion. -
Be very careful with this. It may lead to unsolicited contacts from the Spey Rod crowd trying to bring you over to the dark side. Fight them with valor! A bit of a sore arm is a small price to pay for the glory and prestige of fishing with the short rod!

Sheesh, I need to start using emoticon's. I would have thought the sarcasm would totally shine through. Guess not!! I thought the "he would be a dry fly fisherman" line would have shown my intent of out smart-assing a smart-ass. BTW, I bet ole Sam was a democrat. With a big gun. -

So let's see.....he catches turtles without the aid of any implements. Pretty pure if you ask me. If he was a fisherman, he'd be a dry fly fisherman I bet! Just another elitist, minus a couple of teeth. Also, don't knock snappers unless you've tried 'em. That's some gooood eatin right dere! Back when I was a kid, we ran trot lines for catfish when the Mississippi flooded in the spring. We ran them in the woods and checked them while wading (the lines were in about waist deep water). You would catch a snapper from time to time. I would just cut them off (figured better that than risking a finger taking them off) and let them go. They scared the crap out of me. My crazy brother (he's missing a couple of teeth too, just not to a chain saw) would just take 'em off by hand! We did turn 'em loose. While they are good to eat, we didn't like to mess with them. Don't judge. -
Anytime bruthah. Haven't used trig in years. My memory is like a steel trap. Full of holes. To the nerd comments, I like to consider myself more of a renaissance man. I'll go ahead and include Dave in that group. There are not many of us!

You don't need it, but it's (inv)tan(7.25/3.5) if memory serves. 64.23 Degrees-this is the angle at the bottom of the triangle. So 25.77 on the top. The length of the hypotenuse is 8.01, I think.
-
Divide it into 2 parts: The "triangle" part is 1/2LWH in this case 1/2*7.25*18*3.5 or 228.375 cubic inches=.132 cu ft the "box" LWH 9*7.25*18=1174.5 cu in. =.679 cu ft. So I get .811

I can't come up with an appropriate response. Remarkable fish, to say the least. Thanks for sharing this! -
Sort of. Just like I'm "sort of" good looking. Wait, it's not like that at all. Whatever, I'd pay serious money to join Lynn on a trip there!!

$110/nt until the end of fishing season. What a bargain!
