Nice brookies. Definatley got to get up there one of these days. Not just for the good fishing but the scenery and the fact that a cell phone probably doesn't work up there. What kind of patterns were they taking?

Thanks rusty. Not trying to cause any problems here on the board. This bully was alone in the pool and following cutties and whities around. Assumed was still feeding and preparing to go spawn. At what time should a person quit fishing for these guys? Caught lots of cutties and alot of other bulls in sizes from 10" to 24". These bulls were not as easy to catch or to get a strike from as one would think. Maybe it was lack of skill but we had to work for them. I know what you are saying about steelheading, salmon fishing and fishing for rainbows stacked up for spawning. Alot of people fish the Bow in the spring when the rainbows are preparing to make their journey. Should we all wait until June to start fishing the Bow so we don't harass them. Some might say they are fishing for Browns but they know that they will also catch rainbows. I don't know. Who am I to judge. I can tell you this bull was in a pool still chasing cutties and I did not pull him off a redd. He took me down to that water while I was fighting him. Sorry for posting the pictures if some were offended. I was kind of excited about catching him because he refused alot of different streamers and presentations but now I am kind of deflated.

Nice fish. Looks like you had a good time out there. Always good to see kids on the water learning. Are you sure you want to do that though. Christmas presents could become very expensive if she takes a real liking to fly fishing. Just kidding.

No pepper spray needed. He did lift his head and bite me though after taking the hook out to release him. Even drew blood. Almost to kind of get me back for catching him. It was a great trip with good company and all the beautiful scenery and good fishing was captured by Kyle in awesome pics and memories. Kyle even got some great video of the whole trip. Will definately have to do it again. We both learned alot about fishing for these beasts and a few late nights at the vise to create some interesting streamers.

You should try to keep them in the water for pictures. The dry sheets can remove the protective slime. Congrats.

tigershark. If you look around on ebay you can pick up the pflueger president reels for about $120 shipped. I have bought about 4 of them so far and really like them. Nice drag system on them for the price. Also owned a trion as my first real and liked it. Just upgraded to the larger arbour president because they weren't much more money. I have used the president in a 5 wt and caught some decent sized trout on it with no problems. Also used the 7wt president for pike and walleye and the drag worked really good for the pike. I also have a 5wt large arbour battenkill that I don't really like. The drag doesn't seem to be as adjustable and they feel like they are a cheaper made reel. I think they have changed they drag system on their newer model so I can't speak for it. just my 2 cents

what weight line are you fishing? should be able to find one easily in that price range.

It is a big streamer tied by max. Blue and white with a little flash in it. Doesn't have a name for it. Had two others on that day that I lost. They sure seem to go for it. Had a good size cutty hit it also but I don't think he got much of it in his mouth. Thanks again max. It will be my weapon of choice this fall when I go bully hunting.

Found this guy in one of my favorite cutty pools today. Not huge but my biggest bull. Taped it at 24". Made my day. Starting to see a little more action on the mountain streams with the levels coming down but still running cold.

That would be a nice fight on a 5 wt. I use a 5 for everything I fish for also and love it. I rigged up a 3wt this winter for the cutties. Can't wait to try it. Hope to see a few more posts from ya before you head back to work.

Nice fish man. Those are some big healthy bulls. You seem to have them figured out judging by your posts this spring. Nice to see your girl catching them too and learning how to handle and release fish at a young age. I have caught bulls in the past but nothing of that size. What weight rod are you using to fish for those hogs? Always look forward to your posts with a nice variety of pics. Keep em coming.

Nice Tiger. Fishing from shore where you come in or in a belly boat? I have fished that lake a few times in the spring and have always done pretty good. The nice thing is that you rarely see anyone else on the lake. I have only caught one splake out of there though and have a hard time finding them. Any splake on your trip? Another good thing is hopping across the highway for rainbows and brookies. Beautiful little lakes up there with little fishing pressure. Would be nice to see a special regs lake up there. There are more and more people moving up into that area with Candle Lake property going crazy. As pressure increases they will have to lower limits or set aside a few lakes for catch and release fishing.

No Tako. Nice little lake in Saskatchewan. Not stocked with trips either. This lake is stocked with smaller diploids so at that size it must have been in there for a while.

Hey Brad. Yes I have been getting out quite a bit and have had some excellent weather whenever I go. When it was raining on you guys down here I was up north in beautiful +20 sunshine. I have put a lot of miles on but it has been worth it to fish some new water and get into some nice fish. Pretty understanding boss that knows I like to get out as much as I can in the spring and I fit these outings around work. Going this weekend for a 3 day canoe trip in northern saskatchewan. One lake has pike and walleye and the other has rainbows. Should be fun portaging between lakes and camping on the islands. Hopefully fishing will be good but it is just nice to get out in the middle of no where and enjoy the surroundings. We should get out down here sometime if I ever hang around for a weekend. I think kyle is itching to get at it on his next days off if yours fall on the same days.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think triploids are made by introducing the eggs to pressure in a pressure canister shortly after fertilization. I think that is how they do it. I think the extra cost comes from this process and the fact that the mortality rate is higher for the eggs.

beed: I thought female too when I first landed it until that white milt came out when I was holding it. It was still a nice fight on a 5wt set up and my biggest rainbow to date. Made the trip for me. albanna: nice fish man. That sure is a big kype on that male. What were you using for a fly?

Had another good weekend fishing. Lots of driving but it was worth it. Caught this pig on a #16 olive scud fishing the shallows. Crystal clear water so it made for some good sight fishing when the sun was out. Taped at 24" and fat. Was nice to release him and watch him swim away when everyone else on the lake was keeping everything they caught. Kept a few small ones for supper with my brothers family. Was wondering if anyone knows why this guy wouldn't have a kype and be that dark spawning color that males usually get. Was up north and the ice just came off 2 weeks ago so I would have thought they would either be spawning or just finished. It was a male because some white milt came out when I picked him up. Just wondering if certain strains don't get the hook jaw. Anyone know?
