Damselfly

I have had some great success with damsel flys this spring in the lakes so i thought i would post a pic of my new pattern.

 

Hook: (Head) 14, (tail) 16 scud hook for both

Tail: marabou

Abdomen: 4X floss spun until it doubles over its self

Rib: neon green wire

Wing case: scud back

Legs: pheasant tail

Body: light green hairs ear dubbing

Eyes: small bath plug beads

 

once i determine where the fish prefer to hit i will cut the other hook out.

hehe i wish, they take me about half an hour right now but i have only tied 2 (of this type) so far.

 

Any suggestions on doing the tail with out a hook? I find when i tie it to a hook or wire and cut it off it leaves a sharp point that i think will deter the fish if it gets a good scratch with that first.

I have tied and glued the marabou to a pieace of 20lb mono .

Nice tie by the way.

I tie my damsels on mono also.

maybe braiding barred olive rubber legs or olive stretch floss???

i was thinking of using rubber, i tried with the same method as the floss but it didnt hold up but i bet your right about braiding it, that should hold strong and give it a wiggle as it goes through the water.

Excellent flies guys, great timing too, I am headed to Muir lake tomorrow. Going to try tying a few like Doc's should work great.

That's a sweet tie SD - can you give us an idea of the steps? Are you prefabbing the bodies? Is there mono inside?

 

I'm Kootenay bound next week and would love to have some of these in the box.
