agree he's got some legacy issues to deal with...king ralph was too long in the big chair and he lost focus & perspective. it's been pretty soft gig to run this province thru some very very fat times: keep the big resource players happy, do right by joe average [in this province that usually means not liberal/socialist] and you'll get re-elected. lots of people made out fairly well in the last decade [what they did with that it is of course another story]. oh, and don't forget your ralph bucks...

 

ed's got his hands full more now for sure. i certainly believe considering his background & home turf he's got the voice of rural average joe in his ear. i think he tried to solve some things for that voice in the first while?

will he screw up so bad he runs things into the ground? highly doubtful.

don't forget he's the face on the front cover, and it's a thick book [caucus] with deep pockets behind the scenes [big c or little c]. i believe he's taking regular readings from the book now...if he's got any clue he'll learn to balance all the interests a little better and given time he could emerge as 'steady eddie'. maybe. we'll see how much af a personal hit he'll take as a result of the price of oil dropping below the magic number. you may regard ed as not particularly stellar, but seriously would you prefer taft [nothing against him - he's actually a sharp dude] or mason? and you do remember teflon don getty was in charge for a while, right?

Ed Stelmach is definitely a liberal. The NDP mantra is tax and spend big, the Liberal mantra is tax and spend medium, and the Conservative is to tax and spend small. It makes me sad.

 

The energy industry is voting with money and jobs are leaving where companies have the choice. For small companies like mine, it's more difficult to pull up stakes and find projects in areas where the government is friendlier. I run the numbers on projects several times a week. This province is a tough place to invest.

 

I disagree with bringing Klein back as his policies for education and health care helped create problems we see today.

Most definately a liberal. There are very few conservatives left in this country, especially in politics. It makes me very sad how left our pliticians think they most move to get votes.

pretty well pick any state in the US - royalties and taxes are lower, regulatory is less onerous.

 

Alberta has small drilling targets, high and growing regulatory requirements, and high royalty rates.

I get the sense Ed has backed himself up against the combine blades and doesn't see the danger. He hired some socialists to run the royalty panel and did not over see them but rather let them duke it out with industry while he sat back and waited to see what public opinion wanted. That shows poor intelligence and extremely poor leadership...but extremely smart Survivor skills.

 

I am sure he would be the last to be voted off the island but would be the most hated by the viewers.

 

When the Alberta Advantage has moved out of the Province...then and only then will he have realized...quit his job...got his retirement package and went back to putsing around the farm...

When that happens, perhaps all the "transients" from Sask, NFLD, Ontario, and other parts I won't mess with, will follow the advantage to where it ends up. At that point, we can revisit all of the 'improvements' they helped get implemented while they were here.

 

BTW - I hear it is only going to cost me 23% higher taxes next year to get rid of Bronco Dave. That is a tremendously good bargain if you ask me, I would be willing to pay twice that.
