wongrs Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Curious to see the top 25 selling trout flies in the US this year? Some nice pictures and slight tweaks to common patterns. I like the variation on the parachute adams and the prince as well as others. check it: http://www.fieldandstream.com/article_gall...of-the-Season/1 Quote
bigbowtrout Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 What!!!! No Christmas Tree streamers? Quote
birchy Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Man I hate the look of that type of San Juan Worm! That's just me though.. Quote
agbff Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 I like those worms better than the wire wrapped ones. Just need a bead somewhere in there... Quote
headscan Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 Isn't the chenille version of the SJW the "original"? Interesting list and some cool patterns there. Now what would be more interesting is a list of the top 25 flies that caught the most fish. I love seeing new ideas, but I've probably caught more fish on GRHEs, PTs, and Princes than every other nymph pattern combined. Have to admit that the CJ is definitely moving up the list as well though. Quote
birchy Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 Isn't the chenille version of the SJW the "original"? I believe it is, yes. I just personally think it's silly looking, and I prefer the wire wrap for the weight. Quote

Just tie em like this - http://www.westfly.com/fly-pattern-recipe/...njuanworm.shtml Sometimes the chenille is different enough to induce hits when the wire and floss version isn't working. Quote
Pipes Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 Does the SJW work in the bow? I'm kidding, I'm kidding. Quote
agbff Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 like a freakin charm! i Like the ones that headscan linked Quote
Slyangler Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Given its popularity in both fresh and saltwater, Im really suprised that the Clouser Minnow didnt make the list? Quote
Hawgstoppah Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 #25 for the win. I use those ALLLLLL the time... My own variation... but the point still stands... there SO effective and so underutilized as a stream nymph. Quote
SilverDoctor Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 Yea I tie variations of all of these, the real trick of course is knowing when and how to fish them. Quote
FlashGordon Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 did everyone catch the article 'Going Deep in the Name of Trout Research' linked on #23 Quote
birchy Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 did everyone catch the article 'Going Deep in the Name of Trout Research' linked on #23 Yeah dude! I was posted on this site awhile back.. and I was trying to find it again earlier today but couldn't remember the name! Very, very cool article! Quote
WesG Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 That beetle pattern is money. Its one of my go to late season flies. The foam on the back is so ripped and tattered there is almost nothing left. When i bought it I only got 1 and I am suprised I havent lost it yet. I tied up a few more a couple nights ago for when I loose the original Quote
streamertyer Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 What!!!! No Christmas Tree streamers? That's funny. Been seeing a lot of these around for about a week now: Quote
admin Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 Nice tie Chris. Now try that on a Martinek 8xl or a CS15 lol. Quote
