Flytyer Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Being it seems there is a fairly substancial group of beginnning tyers here I thought I might ask this question. Our UK friends have done this and it seems to have gone over well. If there is enough interest I could consider hosting such a swap. Just let me know what you ladies and gents think. Quote
mwalters Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 I'd be interested in another one if you started it. Quote
Fishietales Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 If you are interested flytyer, I've got a begginers manual that I've sent to one or two of the FFC members, it has ten patterns and step by steps for them in it, maybe you could send each participant a copy highlighting the fly they have to tie, and it will also give them an idea of what the other ones should look like, have a think and let me know if you want to use it and PM me Hope this helps John Quote
ladystrange Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 i may have to sit this one out unless you need a warm body and a few dead flies, only because i am out of town for a month come April, but i would be more than willing to help the new people out with tips/one on one instruction if needed Quote
regdunlop Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 I've been tying for a little over a year now. I think I'll consider myself a "beginner" for quite some time to come yet I'd be interested in the swap Quote
126barnes Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Second winter for me. I'll be up for this one............if we can pick our own patterns. Quote
Guest Rocknbugs Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Ok count me in on this one. How do we decide which pattern tie? do we decide or is the pattern picked for us? Quote
Flytyer Posted February 20, 2008 Author Posted February 20, 2008 Ok count me in on this one. How do we decide which pattern tie? do we decide or is the pattern picked for us? This thread is just to get a measure for interest......most likely it would be your own choice with the exception that the same pattern can't be tied by 2 people hope this helps somewhat Quote
Teck71 Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 I'm very new to tying but sure I'll be in. And thanks again Fishie manuals workin good. Quote
Flytyer Posted February 22, 2008 Author Posted February 22, 2008 To make a beginner swap worthwhile there should be at least 10 people participating....as of now there is 7 definate and possibly 8 that have stated interest. Quote
birchy Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 I'd be interested. I just have to actually take some time to sit down and watch a few of those beginner online tying lessons.. Quote
Teck71 Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Birchy PM me your email. and I'll forward the Manual Fishietales sent me, has some good stuff in it to compliment the online courses. Quote
ladystrange Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 birchy, if you need a hand, i can come over one night and go over a few tips and stuff. Quote
Guest Rocknbugs Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 To make a beginner swap worthwhile there should be at least 10 people participating....as of now there is 7 definate and possibly 8 that have stated interest. Come on then guys/gilrs 3 more is what we need. Now that it has been brought up I cant wait to get started. Quote
ladystrange Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 i guess it looks like we may need a warm body and some dead flies. so i'll throw my hat in the ring. 9 might not be too bad for a beginners swap Quote
Snowwolf Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 I'd love to get into this swap but might take me a little bit. I am getting together some supplies from ebay and not sure how long it will take to get here. is that okay or should I just wait to join once I get my stuff? funny I have fly fished for about 20 years and never really got into fly tying. Quote
Rainbow Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Count me in Flytyer, I just started 2 months ago and not sure how these things work. Quote
Flytyer Posted February 26, 2008 Author Posted February 26, 2008 Here's a list of those that say they are interested or questionable: 1- mkankmike 2- cheeler 3- RegDunlop 4- 126barnes 5- rocknbugs 6- hopdrop 7- Teck 8- birchy 9- Rainbow SnowWolf? Ladystrange? How would an April 1 deadline sound? This would provide ample time for all the flies to get here being one set would be coming from the east coast. I'll start a new thread in the swap section shortly for this. Quote
Din Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 I'd be in if I knew what I was tying...money is hard to come by these days and to have to purchase new materials for it that I don't have I wouldn't be able to participate...Been tying for just over a year and am still a beginner in my eyes Quote
Snowwolf Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 yeh put me in as well. I got my stuff now. D Quote
BrianS Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 If you folks do another of these, I would like to be in. Been tying for about two months...stooopid new but would love to share my attempts! Quote
