  1. Hi all, The K-4 school that I teach at is hosting an Artisan's Fair in early December to raise money for our school library AND a local charity (either ACH, Inn From The Cold or the Caring Clowns Association). Basically students, working with their teachers, create pieces of art, books, videos, etc (the idea list is getting bigger and bigger) to be sold with all raised money being split 50/50 between our library and the chosen charity. This is also a chance for some of the teachers to showcase any artistic-ish talents they may have and I thought of tying up some flies to sell on the night. While I think I'm a decent tier, I'm also painfully slow...like slower than my grandpa walking with ankle weights. Knowing this, I need to keep my list of what to tie to a minimum...effective but easy to tie, such as Elk Hair Caddis. I seem to be a little dry on ideas...any suggestions? Dries, nymphs, whatever... Also, what do you think a fair price for these would be? A buck each? Make packs of a dozen? Select your own? Other ideas? Also, for any of you 200 flies per hour Nor-Vise owners, if you're interested in donating a few flies to the cause my school and I would truly appreciate it! (Just throwin it out there...) Thanks, Brian
  2. dune, It looks like a Solo Liquor at 7-3451 DOUGLASDALE BOULEVARD SE has ordered it before but it doesnt mean that they still have it on shelf! If you're every curious about where to find something check out http://www.alberta-liquor-guide.com/ - these are the guys that ship all the booze in alberta and let you search for products. Very handy.
  3. Ah...now you've gone and made me a jealous, jealous man! I'd sell an arm for an oz. of that!
  4. Ron Zacapa is available all over the city right now...A ton of places have it for about 80 bucks a bottle! I've got two sitting on my shelf right now...just in case that start to have problems getting some! If you have friends in the southern states, you can also get it there for a fair bit cheaper!
  5. And here I thought I was one of the only people around that liked rum without coke! I agree almost complete with dune's list... Ron Zacapa and Zaya are two of the best I have ever had! So far Diplomatic Grand Reserva has been left out however...it's in my top three! Great rum and cheaper than Zacapa or Zaya but it can be pretty hard to find; I had one guy describe it as the poor man's Zacapa. Their are others to add to that list but I probably shouldn't get started... I am a true rum lover that tends to collect more bottles then I can drink! Seeing this thread made me a little bit giddy...and thirsty...

    Hand Held Gps?

I noticed the mention of Ibycus on this thread. Has anyone got this figured out for Mac? Not sure where to begin since I don't own a PC no more!
  7. Hey Brian, Would you like me to volunteer to transfer over to that one, if you run it? If it makes it easier for you to teach I can do that! -Brian
  8. Well, I guess that does it for me! I'm a brand new caster and can't make it on any weekday...so you can take my name off the list, I guess...
  9. Great! Thanks! I know you've got a msg and an email from me, so you've got a way to confirm with me!
  10. So, what's going on with this? I've tried to sign up but haven't heard anything back....is it full?? If not, I'll join you on the Saturday! -Brian
  11. Ok....there goes that cheap idea! Thanks for the info!
  12. Does anyone know if this business is still running? I was poking around for a cheap hackle solution (small sizes without buying expensive capes) and found a website that said they sold individual feathers from Whitings down to a 22...for way cheaper than those 100 packs! I'm going to send off an email but I was wondering if anyone here knows if they are in business anymore! Thanks! -Brian
  13. I would be very interested as well! I'd fight for a different week, though...spring break for us teachers and my wife wants to go somewhere hot!
  14. Add a 3rd for Handbrake! And MacTheRipper to get it off the DVD in the first place!
  15. I'd be interested! Might be help me practice being a bit more creative!
  16. Thanks for the ideas on people, guys...I'll get a hold of those two soon and see if they are interested! Unless, of course Max, Brent or someone else interested is reading this and gets inspired to contact me.... -Brian
  17. Hey guys, I know this a weird request and all but I was wondering if there was an experienced tyer on the board that would want to visit my class to do a little demo of...wait for it....fly tying! I work in a very small school for junior high student with severe behaviour disorders and we try to provide experiences for our students that they may not normally get to have. Myself and another teacher plan on teaching a fly tying/fishing class towards the end of the school year for a small group but are pretty much complete beginners ourselves. While we can teach the basics, we have no hope of showing anything really cool to our students! So, I was hoping that someone might be willing to come in on June 3 for about an hour (we could make it more) from 1:30-2:30pm and show off some mad skills. I still have to check into security clearances and all that but I can't see there really being an issue. Let me know if you are interested! Thanks for thinking about this! -Brian PS My school is in Parkdale, so fairly central...
  18. I've had it pretty much since it came out in Canada. Bought it because of the above mentioned crappy stations in Calgary - I don't mind paying for it at all. Only really listen to four stations, though...most people i know with would say the same thing BUT on those stations the music is great. Works great almost anywhere, unless there is a big mountain beside you (especially if it is on the south side of you). Means it can be spotty through BC all along the Trans-Can. Only near Canmore does it cut out in Alberta. -brian
  19. From someone who is trying to get this amazing and exceptionally frustrating sport figured out, I agree with Max. BigBadBrown told me about this great site that would help me find some holes - which would take one of my concerns away...already self-conscious about my hack of a cast and complete lack of presentation skills! ha! I would never expect highly detailed instructions (12 paces east of the big tree, look for the orange rock...) but us newbies need help sometimes (or in my case, all the time ) Might make more of us passionate about the sport instead of demoralized! HA! Although I do understand wanting to keep the pressure down... I guess i'm torn...
  20. If you folks do another of these, I would like to be in. Been tying for about two months...stooopid new but would love to share my attempts!
