DonAndersen Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 Folks, The field runoff really got going Friday. Clearwater River @ highway # 752 is ice jamed, Prairie Creek @Everdale Hall is ice covered. Lots of snow in the fields. Lakes are weeks from opening. Don 1 Quote
AquaBoy Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 South Central streams are very high and dirty too, took a drive north of Calgary on Sunday and there is a lot of water moving down ditches and into those streams. Vis was sub 3". Quote
AquaBoy Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 On a positive note I saw a ton of BWO hatching and a variety of a other insect activity on the banks. 1 Quote
SilverDoctor Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Wonder if the hatches will be a bit later this year. Quote
AquaBoy Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 I was out on the same stream on April 17th- April 30th constantly last year (digitally tagged photos) and I have a feeling that everything seems to be delayed by ~2 weeks hatch wise. A buddy and I think day one of last years Bow River stone-fly hatch was July 4th- we were nymphing black/golden stones all day and there was no stones on the surface until 10pm that night when we were leaving. The following week the new blew up on social media and on here about the good surface action. It will be interesting to see when the stones come out this year like they did last.. I think it would be no surprise to anyone if it is later. Ill set the over/under bets on July 18th Quote
Dangus Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 I’m my experience, Hatches tend to play catch up and overlap rather than slow up over the whole season. If we’re talking about the bow now, I’d bet stones begin to emerge around the end of June as runoff tapers, just as they always have... 3 Quote
Goggin Posted April 28, 2018 Posted April 28, 2018 Does this mean the likes of prairie creek will be brown till june, went there this morning, about 3” visibility Quote
