DonAndersen Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Guys, Watched the Czech nymph thing with interest. Am I mistaken here but few of the flies offered are truly Czech nymphs. They must be very heavily weighted. None of the offerings appear to be. The Czech nymph is both a nymph and a fly presentation. Czech nymphing cannot be done with W/O heavily weighted flies. Maybe you should have renamed the contest - lightly weighted Caddis nymphs. regards, Don Quote
bulltrout Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 mine had an underbody of flat lead wire as described in the Czech Nymph article in the current flyfishing and tying journal (pg. 28)... Quote
dryfly Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Don..see my webpages....two lead shots should qualify. Quote
ladystrange Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 mine is also weighted under the dubbing with lead wire for the length of the fly and technically double wrapped at the thorax but it was a small hook. i cant find the box at the moment for the size Quote
hydropsyche Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Lead tape as per Oliver Edwards. I had to pick it up at the Golf Pro shop. I see they sell it at the Fishin Hole now, but they didn't last year. You're 100% right, Don, but its hard to see how heavily weighted a fly is if you use lead tape and sparse dubbing. At least I think mine was a Czech. It was with all the other Czechs I tied. Now you forced me to have to take my razor blade out and check. This one is a 100% Oliver Edwards pattern, so I know its heavily weighted/double wapped as per Essentials vid. I don't have to take a razor blade to this one. Quote
DonAndersen Posted December 6, 2007 Author Posted December 6, 2007 Guys, Got any use for some crow feathers. I'm eating the rest of the bird. Don Quote
bulltrout Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 it's all good don...we won't hold it against ya... Quote
Brownstone Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 ...I was kinda thinking the same thing Don, pass me a drumstick... Quote
DonAndersen Posted December 6, 2007 Author Posted December 6, 2007 Maxwell, Didn't vote 'cause all the flies were well tied and looked good. I'd fish 'em all. Don Quote
reevesr1 Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Amen to that, Don. I did vote, but picking a favorite was probably a waste of time. They are all great. Quote
