Wood Treatment Experience Opinion Needed

Recommended Posts

Since there are so many members with varied experience, I want to put this out there. Prior to moving my wife wrapped a very sticky tape around an upright wooded entertainment center to prevent finger pinching doors from moving during the move. When she went to carefully remove the tape, some small pieces as well as the sticky glue residue stayed on some parts. ( thought it was a bad idea to begin with). Any suggestions what I can use to remove the last of the tape and sticky glue residue without harming the wood. Thanks Paul I figure eagleflyfisher and some others may know.

Use a piece of soft leather and rub it off, it takes some effort but it will not affect or mark the finish. Next time use masking tape.

Eagleflyfisher knows for sure what to do.

My wife used double sided tape to secure a rug on hardwood. Few days later our cat vomited all over that rug and we had to throw it away (rug, kitty is safe). Had blistered fingertips trying to peel that stuff off the hardwood. While she was at work I threw away remainder of that tape before she does it again. Gotta love women, reminded me of red green home improvement.

Your best option for removing would be mineral spirits. Will not affect finish and works quite well. I am a carpenter and do a lot of spraying finishes as well. Just some background.

Thanks Rich and all for good suggestions. I did used mineral spirits and it did a great job. Regards Paul

X2

Also WD40 removes the glue, but the smell is offensive to women.
