ÜberFly Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Anyone else using AirFLO Elite Trout? Aweful stuff!! It's going back tomorrow. Recently purchased, used twice and it has horrible line memory. I'm surprised as I have some of their Salt Water lines and I'm quite happy with them... P Quote
tika Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Damn, I just loaded one onto my new Douglas. Haven't fished it yet... I find it pretty hit and miss with Airflo lines myself. I think it was the only 6WT DT line in the shop. I will get out with it and let you know. Quote
ÜberFly Posted August 25, 2015 Author Posted August 25, 2015 Try it and find out and let me know, Maybe I just got a dud. It didn't seem too bad the 1st time I used it, but it was VERY apparent yesterday... Quote
Cutbow16 Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Is it the super dri elite? I have that on my 5 wt and find it works great. Quote
ÜberFly Posted August 25, 2015 Author Posted August 25, 2015 Yeah all the reviews are great!! Might have gotten a bad lot! P Quote
toolman Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 This is a common issue with many new PU lines and easy to fix. I would recommend lightly stretching the line to get the coil memory out, Just tie off the end of the line to something solid and put tension on it from the other end, to stretch it out. It may take a few minutes of tension. After stretching, let the full line out in fast current to just hang on the dangle for a few minutes to remove twists. Strip the line back and start casting. PU lines often just need a short break in period to relax. My experience with many dozens of Airflo lines that I have owned has been consistently good in both durability and performance. http://www.airflofishing.com/airflo-fly-line-care.cfm Quote
ÜberFly Posted August 25, 2015 Author Posted August 25, 2015 So Toolman Will i have to do this every time I use it? P Quote
toolman Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Probably not once the line gets relaxed but PU lines are temperature sensitive and tend to coil a bit in cooler temps. Quote
SilverDoctor Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Yep have a couple of Airfow's that needed the stretch break in. Do it one or twice and you should be gold. I usually do it while watching TV a couple of times before I take it on the water. Quote
ÜberFly Posted August 25, 2015 Author Posted August 25, 2015 Exchanged it for one of the Loop Evotec Lines (4 wt). Heard good things about those!! P Quote
Vagabond Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Hmmmm...nothing but good to say about Airflo in my experiences.Cast great, high floating, long lasting/bombproof....I've gradually switched all of my lines to Airflo over the last 5-6yrs?I won't buy anything but,wee bit of a fanboy I guess you'd say, lol. Guest bigdirty Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 I'm with vagabond. Switched to airflo for my sinking and floating streamer lines. Holding up well. Streamer line even casts big foam with ease. Quote
Pipestoneflyguy Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 I just bought one of those lines Peter and I friggin love it, I guess I'll see what it does as it gets colder up here Quote
