RedBeard Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 As most of us, I have an abundance of fly boxes, but none of them work very well for my dry flies. They either flatten the bottom hackle on my dries, or flatten the posts on my larger dries/hoppers. What do you guys use for dry flies to preserve 360° of the hackle with enough space for the flies with a taller profile? Quote
Nbarks Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 http://www.reelflies.ca/fly_box_medium_double_p/medium-double.htm This is my favorite box for dries. I find the silted foam helps with the hackle issue, and it has enought height for posts for medium sized ones. Would be interested to see others preferred dry boxes. 1 Quote
bcubed Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Definitely window style. I use this one, covers most bases. Big hoppers go in slit along with all the nymphs. Keeps it nice and simple http://www.intheriffle.com/frontend/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/CF-12-compartment-8-row-fly-box.jpg Quote
FraserN Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 I use empty camera film tubes for my dry flies. They are perfect for preventing the hackle from being crunched out of shape. Quote
darrinhurst Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 I use these boxes. Have three of them and love them. One big one for dries and two others for my big and small nymphs. https://umpqua.com/products/accessories/boxes/upg-fly-box Quote
Roast Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 I picked these up down south. Super cheap and can store a lot of different flies. I use two in the summer. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabelas-Poly-20-Compartment-Box/1514352.uts?Ntk=AllProducts&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch%2F%3FN%3D1000002949%2B5100297%26Ntk%3DAllProducts%26Ntt%3DFly%2Bbox%26Ntx%3Dmode%252Bmatchallpartial%26WTz_l%3DHeader%253BSearch-All%2BProducts%26WTz_srn%3DBy%2BCategory%2BSearch%26WTz_st%3DSearchRefinements%26form_state%3DsearchForm%26nl%3Dtrue%26search%3DFly%2Bbox%26searchTypeByFilter%3DAllProducts%26x%3D-738%26y%3D-52&Ntt=Fly+box&WTz_l=Header%3BSearch-All+Products Quote
RedBeard Posted September 17, 2014 Author Posted September 17, 2014 Thanks for the suggestions guys, thought I found a good box for dries but I got out on a creek this past weekend and a few of the dries I tried were flattened... They ended up floating on their sides and were totally ineffective. I'll have to try and find a compartment box or one of the ones you guys recommend. Quote

BurningChrome Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 https://umpqua.com/products/accessories/boxes/myran-box I've had mine for around 20 years. Metal pins in the hinges make the difference. Quote
