Guest 420FLYFISHIN Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 so my birthday is coming up and the only thing really on my list is a fish finder. I would like to get the piranha 180. Is there a better bang for my buck? I would like to keep it in or under the $200 range. It will probably stay at the lake where we have an aluminum boat so size is not a problem. not interested in the cast-able ones as the batteries die out in about a year or two. Thanks Quote
Chadillac Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 I have the piranha 180 and love it 420, i would say look no further but i dont have a base of comparison. Quote
screaminreel Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Humminbird 170 for me. I do a lot of lake fishing and this thing gives me everything I need. Very clear and accurate read of fish, bottom, temp etc. Quote
fishinglibin Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Howdy 420 and others, may I ask why Hummingbird over Lawrance or others? I too am in the market for the spring, and curious what you guys think. Thanks Quote
fishinglibin Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 PIRANHA MAX 170 on sale at store that rhymes with balcart Quote
SilverDoctor Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 I believe there was a price range of under the $200 involved here. Both Humminbird and Lowrance have great units, I'm picking up a Lowrance Elite 7 in the spring for the boat but the price will be quite a bit more. I've always preferred Lawrance. Many are switching to tthe Hummingbirds to run thier iPilots and electric motors. I think it really depends on what your budget iand use is going to be. It also breaks down to what brand you like. Tungsten Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 If your fishing in water 20' or less look for the side scan types. These are the ones you just clamp to the side of the boat. Quote
