Jayhad Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Hey everyone, I went to go for a walk this morning down at the 17thAve/Blackfoot boat lunch, and there are two locked gates now one blocking the condo complex entrance and one at the start of the dirt road that goes to the launch. There has always been one right at the pathway but these other two are new. There are signs at the launch that it is a public boat launch.... how can it be public if there is no way to get there? Any one know who manages these types of issues with the city? I'd like to know if this is for winter or the way things are going to be....... Quote
troutfriend Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Technically, as I understand, that access site is not “public” but actually a “controlled” launch by the fire department. Contact them. Quote
Guest 420FLYFISHIN Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 i could also see the construction site doing this if they have had a string of things go missing at night. hope it is open for the spring Quote
Brunsie Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I haven't used that boat launch for a couple of years, but there used to be a lockable gate about 100 feet from the launch, but it didn't restrict foot traffic. Don't remember ever seeing it locked however. If memory seves there used to be a sign that said "emergency boat launch" or something to that effect. BK Quote
Jayhad Posted January 27, 2012 Author Posted January 27, 2012 The construction is fenced in with 9' chain link. Brunsie that gate is still there. I guess I'll have to start carrying my universal key Quote

Swede Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Used it 3 years ago and there was a sign right at the top of the ramp stating " This is not a public launch. For emergency vehicles only do not block ramp for any reason. Well been the upstanding citizen I am, I launched anyways. Never used it since as I don't need the grief when there so many other launches to use. Quote
FlyFishingEMT Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 When I was there this year the schools were using the launch for their field trips on the Bow. Quote

I guess I'll have to start carrying my universal key Have you ever wondered why various landowners refuse access to certain parts of the river? Would it have anything to do with abuse? I hope that comment about the universal key is a joke. It doesn't take very many locks being cut to color all fisher people with the same brush. Murray Quote
